LX.TV Visits with SL Design at Amalia, New York
Published May 22, 2007
What lies beneath is a question that has driven psychoanalysts for years. So naming the subterranean restaurant at the new Dream Hotel for Sigmund Freud's mother - Amalia is fitting.
In this video, Audrey Smith sits down with SLDesign's co-owners, Chris Sheffield and Steve Lewis, to probe their psyche and learn how they transformed this underground space into a breathtaking creation in modern thought. Function dictated design, but aesthetic was not compromised.
SLDesign used custom materials to fuse together the original elements of the space and the newly evolved aspects. Everything from the ceiling murals to the cut-out profiles of Freud and Amalia help to create a functional yet soothing and therapeutic space for diners. There is no hidden meaning lurking in recesses of this well thought-out venue.
