George Nakashima's Coffee Tables
Published May 17, 2007
Green living is all the rage now, but furniture designer George Nakashima is the pioneer in that realm. LX.TV's Audrey Smith visits Sebastian and Barquet Gallery in Chelsea to see Japanese-American Nakashima's beautiful works of natural art. Constructed mainly from natural walnut, redwood and maple, Nakashima used a variety of woods to construct his furniture. Creating mostly coffee tables, Nakashima has influenced contemporary designers with his precocious and innovative style, while remaining true to the elements of its origin. Gallery curator, Sebastian Errazuriz, gives LX.TV a guided tour in this video. Both elegant and clean, Nakashima's pieces represent a flowing tribute to the refinement found in the grains of nature. So skip a walk through Central Park and head to Chelsea's art district to see the 16 pieces on display.
