10 Songs to Freak You Out

4. “Invisible” – Clay Aiken
Sample Lyric: "If I was invisible, then I could just watch you in your room."

Author Note: This song always seemed like such a horribly poor choice for a single off of the American Idol alum’s debut album.

5. “Hello” – Lionel Richie
Sample Lyric: "I've been alone with you inside my mind. And in my dreams I've kissed your lips a thousand times."

Author Note: The reasons for this song ending up on the list are twofold. 1 – The tone in the opening verse of the song is, by definition, eerie. 2 – One of the creepiest music videos of all time. Hands down.

6. “Private Eyes” – Hall & Oates
Sample Lyric: "You can't escape my private eyes. They're watching you."

Author Note: I don't think I want anyone with a mustache like that watching me with their eyes, private or otherwise.

7. “Excitable Boy” - Warren Zevon
Sample Lyric: "And he dug up her grave and built a cage with her bones."

8. “Cute Without the E (Cut From the Team)” - Taking Back Sunday
Sample Lyric: "How about I'm outside of your window, watching him keep the details covered. You're such a sucker for a sweet talker."

9. “I Slept With Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me” - Fall Out Boy
Sample Lyric: "Find a safe place, brace yourself, bite your lip. I'm sending your fingernails and empty bottles you've sipped back to your family, 'cause I know you will be missed."

Author Note: For a band who sticks mostly to lyrics about posers and their fans, I have always found this line strikingly out of place and frightening.

10. “Mixtape” - Butch Walker
Sample Lyric: "You talk to him, and it burns me like the sun. You talk to her, and you say that you feel like he's the one. I talk to me, but you can't hear the pain I feel."

Author Note: Love Butch. LOVE him. But anytime a man is talking to himself about how much pain he’s in while watching someone else from afar… disturbing.

I suspect that this is only the tip of the iceberg. Were I (or you) to listen to my entire music catalogue, I feel quite certain I would be overwhelmed by the number of alarming prose out there. Happy listening!

Kate Harding's brain contains an abnormal amount of entertainment (read: useless) knowledge. It is the reason that she did not do better in school and why she often can't remember why she walked into a room. Kate can be found managing a non-profit art gallery and talking endlessly about music.

Nice. I've always thought Warren Zevon was freaky in general.

3. "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" - The Smiths---Sample Lyric: "And if a double-decker bus crashes into us, to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die."

Despite the creepiness, that has to be one of my favorite lyrics on all time. Good list for sure.

Good song to freak you out: AC/DC "Night Prowler"

Jerry, I so agree. One of the best lyrics of all time. I rank it up thre with "The more you ignore me, the closer I get." Also completely stalkerish, but lovely nonetheless!

Evanescence: Like you

sample: "...i long to be like you, like cold in the ground like you (in a grave)"

was a song by Amy Lee to her dead sister, i think
