Christina Aguilera's Tour Dates Sell Out In Minutes

Written by Chris Evans

Christina Aguilera has already had a highly successful tour run in Europe, and in North America, and now she's moving on to Australia and New Zealand.  Three of her Australian dates sold out in under an hour, forcing Christina to add three new shows, and her New Zealand date sold out in the same amount of time, also forcing her to add a second show.  The Australian cities are Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, and Brisbane, and the New Zealand show is in Auckland.

Her Back to Basics tour has proven to be a fruitful endeavor, nearly selling out every venue in which she has played, all the while receiving rave reviews.  The L.A. Times raves "“More than any other mainstream pop artist of her generation, Aguilera
cares about her cultural progenitors — not only music genres such as
blues and soul, but also visual motifs such as the circus and the
speak-easy."  They go on to say, "she excels at power ballads — the big, clean-lined weepers that have
really existed only since the 1980s. Aguilera’s traditionalist belting,
based in her study of R&B greats such as Etta James, lends depth
and seriousness to these often slick songs. She treats them like
classics, and her will transforms them.”

Whitney Houston and Madonna combined in one, Christina brings both the vocals and the spectacle in her hour and a half long show, which many have called her best tour to date. Though there is a lot that enhances the show, the focus is always at heart--her voice.  O.C. Register said “Christina Aguilera really brought the house down. And then she brought it down again.”  The Kansas City Star said “based on the strength of her performance Saturday, the 26-year-old
Aguilera may eventually be elevated to the ranks of Frank Sinatra,
Aretha Franklin and Barbara Streisand as an iconic voice of her time.”

Those in New Zealand and Australia might want to get tickets while they can, because considering how quickly the first set of dates sold out, there's no telling how much time will pass before the second date is sold out, and you'll have to wait another 4 or 5 years before getting a glimpse of Aguilera and her powerhouse pipes.

Aussies can pick up their tickets at ticketek.com.au, and in New Zealand, try ticketek.com.nz.

Christina who?

Her Los Angeles was amazing!

When you compare Christina to Aretha, Barbra and Frank, you are obviously talking about them in their heyday. This is unwise. Take Aretha Franklin, for example. Aretha was born into a racist society where everything she knew around her was unequal: schools, jobs, education, public accomodations, churches, vicious racism and Jim Crow -- plus, she had traveled all over the country singing gospel and COMPETING with the premiere black gospel singers on the planet, honing her skills. All of that experience was in her voice at 18. For today's critics to start comparing girls, even English girls, who LISTENED to some soul records and decide that they are a soul singers, so skilled as to be COMPARED to the masters of that genre doesn't make sense.

As a person who grew up in a black Baptist church and having sung this music since childhood, I don't hear that kind of soul in Christina's voice. Her attempt at using black gospel vocal techniques and shadings have not been mastered. And she has not learned that singing soul doesn't mean that one has to "curly cue" everything in a song.

There are THOUSANDS of black ladies singing in churches all over America that cn sing CIRCLES around Christina, they just never were offered the chance to be heard or seen. It's easy for any blond from another country to come to the US and jump over native-borns (especially black) and get tremendous opportunities here THE DOORS ARE OPEN TO THEM. The country hasn't changed much since the early 1900s

Mack, you need to take a chill pill. They weren't comparing Christina to them. They were simply saying that Christina is an iconic voice of this generation, and so are the other people mentioned--in their respective generations.

Okay can people just let Christina have a minute to shine. How dare you say that Christina has had it easy? It takes so much hard work to make it in the music industry, and to break the mold...which she has done. And she is no "Blonde from another country" hello...She is AMERICAN! lol That is what is wrong with America today, everything always has to be about color/race and it makes me sick. It's about the talent in her case not the color of her skin or hair for that matter. Quit being a hater.

I admire her so much, and whoever dares to mock and diss her, is just out of his/her mind...for that matter respect and let us who like her enjoy her voice and talent...there's plenty variety of artists out there, for everyone

I love christina

Christina doesn't have the voice of a Whitney Houston - whitney's catalogue speaks for itself, xtina doesnt have many enjoyable songs in hers which will ever be considered classics one day. MAYBE amongst her fans but not in general. I know about 20 people that went to her concert and EVERY single one of them went to see the Pussycat Dolls! And they referred to the concert as the Pussycat dolls concert - and I asked them "what about Xtina?" and they say "who cares about her, we ain't goin' to see her" LOL too funny... Christina is lucky to have brought them along to join her otherwise not many ppl care about that track slut.

Johanna you are so ignorant! Maybe you don't like Christina but you can't say anything negative about her talent. As for your remark about the Pussy Cat Dolls, they can only wish to have the credibility and respect that Christina has earned! She is an ARTIST and they are just a one woman show...strippers that hold microphones. Christina will be around for many more years...get used to seeing her face becuase she is here to stay!

XTina is sexy and talented. To be linke with Sinattra, Streisand, And ARetha.....well, I just think the critics should admit that the teem ido, was unnnecsary caution...she' already lasted inthe puclim mid much longer than Cyndi LAuper, who made the cover of NEwsweek....her videos are unreal, too.
