Disney scored a surprise hit a last year with High School Musical. Naturally, they wanted to try to duplicate the success. As a result, they came up with Jump In! featuring High School Musical's Corbin Bleu. While this film is a little more uneven than its predecessor, it's still a solid, entertaining story.

Bleu portrays Izzy Daniels, a boxer trying to mirror his father's boxing career by winning the Golden Gloves. His father is portrayed by Bleu's real-life father David Reivers. At his father's urging, Izzy takes his younger sister to a jump rope competition. When his neighbor Mary (KeKe Palmer, Akeelah and the Bee) loses a team member, Izzy steps in and discovers a love and admiration for the athleticism required for competitive jump roping.

There's plenty of the usual Disney themes woven throughout the plot: the need to "follow your heart", "seek your full potential" and just enough romance between Izzy and Mary to make the movie interesting for tweens and young teens.

But what's most impressive about the movie is the choreography involved in the jump rope sequences. The athletic ability of not only Bleu but his fellow cast members is obvious. However, as we see in the behind-the-scenes bonus featurette, everyone had to work very hard to master the complicated sequences. Their collective hard work shows through and really adds to the enjoyment of the movie.

For Corbin Bleu, Jump In! will not doubt be his breakout film. He's clearly established himself as one of the rising stars in the Disney studio. He also shows that he is truly a multi-talented actor that we can look forward to seeing in many more movies in the future.

Disney has shown their ability to develop enjoyable films targeted for tweens. While Jump In! doesn't quite duplicate the magic of High School Musical, it comes pretty close. It' still a solid, enjoyable, family-friendly film. This is one dad who hopes that Disney can continue to develop these types of films.
