Wii Internet Channel Final Version Released
Published April 14, 2007
Remember the Internet Channel Beta Version? Well, you can now forget it, because the real deal is here, and it was worth the wait.
Wii owners across the world can now download the full version of the Opera Browser from the Wii Ware section of the Wii Shop Channel. The browser will be free for all Wii owners until the end of June.
New features for the full Opera browser include:
- Faster start-up time
- Added search button
- Text is clear, even when enlarged
- You can now hide to tool bar to see even more of the screen
- Parental Controls
- Buttons that will instantly type common preset letters, such as "www" or ".com"
- Quicker access to favorited sites
Scroll and zoom features have also been improved upon. Now when users zoom in, they will be able to see an arrow pointed in the direction which they are scrolling. It appears that the Wii Opera browser also uses a universal font type, the same one used in other Wii channels. The default favorites list for the Wii browser has also been updated to include links to both Yahoo! and Google.
Another new option is the single-column feature, which stacks the entire page into a single column for easier scrolling. This would likely be useful for those who prefer only scrolling up and down with the Wii remote, since single-column mode restricts side-to-side scrolling.
The full browser is expected to cost 500 Wii points, or US$5, after June. However, due to Wii shortages that are expected to continue for the next few months, Nintendo may decide to revise this strategy and push the date back, though no such decision has yet been hinted at.

am i the only one to think the new page scrolling is impossible to use? it used to be intuitive & controllable, now it scrolls in the opposite direction to the wiimote gesture, and it seems amost random how much you scroll. aarrgh - frustrating!
