Purgatory House, Indie Film From Teen Screenwriter/Actress Celeste Davis Now Available on DVD
Published March 30, 2007
Celeste Davis is one amazing young lady. At 14, she has written and starred in one of the most insightful independent films of the year, Purgatory House, which is now available on DVD. The movie takes a look at teen angst, growing up in today’s turbulent times, and how some kids crash and burn from the pressure.
The story follows the death and life of Silver Strand, a teenager caught up in drugs and delinquency, who finds herself stuck in a mystical halfway house teetering on the edge of Heaven or Hell. Silver reviews the events of her life, with a watchful Satan always close by, and seeks to change her ways and save herself from the endless trap of Purgatory House.
Purgatory House has won several awards and earned Davis the Movie Maker Magazine "Screenwriter of the Week" award on January 14, 2007. With it’s mini-cam look, the movie takes on a "straight outta film school" feel that helps the story, as it centers around kids that should be in school, making these kinds of movies. It’s the twist on purgatory as a halfway house for stoner teenybopper types that is amazing, coming from such a young person's point of view. Her eye is dead on, and she delivers some very powerful scenes.
The movie is an amazing display of talent for Davis, as she took notes from her own turbulent life and molded a screenplay that critics are calling brilliant, charming, and unforgettable. The movie is gaining fans and has received press mentions on NPR, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, and many more. I recommend you see it and hear the voice of today’s youth, straight from the horse’s mouth.
