Myst Online: Uru Live Now Available for Intel Mac Users
Published March 21, 2007
Myst has and always will hold a special place in my heart. The Miller brothers' first game in the series is a monumental gaming landmark. With every new release of a Myst game, I get sucked in again, just as I did when I was a kid. Few other games provide this kind of enjoyment.
Seeing the MMO Uru Live come out as a Windows-only game was a real kick in the pants. This Ubisoft-published online extension of the Myst world floundered, and sank. But in February 2007, GameTap brought the game out of beta, a full-on rebirth of the game. The fan base has kept the game alive.
Now, with the help of TransGaming Inc’s Cider portability engine, which enables PC games to run on the Intel Macs, even Uru Live can run on the Mac - once again back to the core audience. Even better, Mac and PC gamers share the same game world.
GameTap has also revealed fresh content for the game, in the form of a new Age (area). In this latest Age, explorers visited one of the pods that the D'ni once used. The pod, set in a stunning jungle environment, appears to have primarily been used to safely observe the exotic wildlife in its natural habitat - a sort of "reverse zoo." However, it contains some features that aren't entirely understood yet, so it’s up to the players to unravel this latest mystery.
Mac users will need an Intel-based Mac, but this news is better than looking through the window. GameTap gives you two choices to experience Uru Live - a free Myst Online Visitor account that restricts you to a small portion of the game, and a paid GameTap account that gives you access to the full game, and all the Ages inside of it.
Myst Online: Uru Live is available today for the Mac platform. Visit GameTap's Uru Live site to continue the trademark Myst puzzle-solving adventure.
