Viacom Sues Google Over YouTube

A lawsuit was brought against Google over copyright infringement over YouTube. The suit is for more than US$ 1 Billion. Viacom alleges that around 160,000 clips have been put up on the site and have had more than 1.5 billion views. Although some of the clips have been removed, others are still available. Among the regularly available programs owned by Viacom are South Park and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

John Lennon Covers to Raise Aid for Darfur

A number of artist are working on an album to raise aid money for Darfur. The album will be called Instant Karma: The Campaign to Save Darfur with the proceeds of the album going to Amnesty International’s efforts in Darfur. The album will contain covers of Lennon’s back catalogue. Some of the artists who have said they will participate are Regina Spektor, R.E.M, Jack Johnson, Corinne Baily Rae, and the Postal Service. The album is slated to be released on July 12th.

Wippit Has Beatles Footage, but No Songs

Rare footage of the Beatles has appeared on Wippit, a site that has claimed that it will be the first to sell Beatles songs online after an agreement was made with license the Beatles catalogue online. The footage, which is for sale for 49 pence for each clip or £4.99 for bundles includes footage of Paul McCartney getting married and John Lennon’s “bed in”.
