Music Review: Gerald Levert - In My Songs

Gerald Levert's In My Songs CD is filled with heart-felt ballads, smooth tempo melodies, and emotional lyrics that leave your heart heavy with grief that this very talented singer, songwriter, and producer Gerald “Teddy Bear” Levert will no longer bless us with future harmonious love songs. The late Gerald Levert does not disappoint his fans with In My Songs and without a doubt has placed his heart and soul into each note. In My Songs is a victorious tribute to Gerald’s more than 20 years of success in the music industry and has given us his final CD that will be cherished for 20 more.

Gerald Levert was born July 13th, 1966 in Canton, OH to Eddie and Martha Levert. Eddie Levert was the lead singer for the soul 1970's group, the O’Jays. Levert’s musical career included the 1980’s group Levert and LSG with Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill. G’s solo career soared in 1991 with his R&B chart climber album Private Line, according to Wikipedia – The Free Encyclopedia. Since the 1990s, we have enjoyed numerous ballads that have earned Gerald Levert a coveted place as one of the most accomplished and influential R&B crooners of our time.

For my own private listening party, my personal favorite picks from Gerald Levert's In My Songs are “In My Songs”, “DJ Don’t”, “I Don’t Get Down Like That”, “Sweeter”, and “Is This the Way to Heaven?” “In My Songs” captures your heart from the very beginning when Eddie Levert (Gerald’s father) briefly thanks G’s fans. “In My Songs” is a true to form Gerald Levert signature love song. He touches the heart of individuals who are still looking for that one and only real love. “DJ Don’t” is one of those upbeat tempo jams that get you ready for the “old –school” type of clubbin. “I Don’t Get Down Like That” is a mature kind of love song that only Gerald can deliver. G talks about taking care of business with his woman like no other man could possibly come close too. “Sweeter” is a ballad that says it all. “Sweeter” is one of the things that Gerald promises to be “the next time”.

If you are a true Gerald Levert fan, In My Songs is definitely one to get for your R&B collection. I have been a Gerald Levert fan myself since the mid 1980s and have truly appreciated all of his contributions to the music industry. Gerald Levert surely will be missed.
