Micro Machines Makes DS Debut

Miniature motor mayhem will return once again on the Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, Sony PSP and PC as Codemaster looks to update its classic racing franchise.

Micro Machines V4, developed by SuperSonic, will once again represent the small scale racing from its preceding titles, turning ordinary environments into treacherous race courses. The inch-long miniature motors will come intact with weapon power-ups as they traverse tracks where everyday objects appear immense in size. Dealing with opponents is as easy as launching homing missiles, firing plasma guns or even smashing them with a car-mounted hammer.

A number of classic Micro Machine game courses will make a return in V4 including the breakfast table, the pool table and the bathtub. Taking the game even further, the environments will expand, taking players to house roofs, sewers, supermarkets, museums and farms. In total, Codemasters is promising around 50 improvised racetracks.

V4 will feature a number of vehicles that differ in performance. Players will have their choice of 25 vehicle types with about 750 cars in total. Through game play, credits will be earned which allow players to unlock new tracks and cars. Vehicles can also be obtained by trading with other players while the bold can participate in pink slip racing where the loser gives up their vehicle.

The title will feature multiplayer and single-player game modes complete with practice, battle and tournament challenges. Once players learn the ins and outs of every track, a track editor will allow them to make their own route in selected environments and challenge friends to races on their custom course.

Micro Machines V4 is currently scheduled to release on the Nintendo DS Feb. 20.
