"Everyone knows Aguilera's got pipes — but probably not even her most devoted fans could've imagined her channeling James Brown with the magnetic fervor she displayed tonight."

I'm one of those most devoted fans. Christina's performance sent chills down my spine; it was completely AMAZING. There's no word for it. She blew the audience away, just look at their faces. That has got to be the BEST performance she's ever done.

I could write pages and pages about this girl and her talent. She really is the best. :)

Christina Aguilera's rendition of "It's A Man's Man's Man's World" (originally by The Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown) was nothing short of legendary. No doubt the performance of her career.

Aguilera is one of the very few singers who can adapt her voice and vocal technique to other musical genres and still sound flawless. That's what is IS to be a vocalist!

I have to bring to attention that when you pay tribute to anyone (as Aguilera did to Brown), you emulate them. Hence the reason for the "scream" - it WASN'T a note gone flat. Those who are unfamiliar with the way Brown performed and his style of singing have absolutely no business criticising such a spectacular performance.

In fact, it doesn't even matter what the majority of people say. Aguilera's peers saw that performance for what it was; a standing ovation met with thunderous applause, later to be hailed as #3 out of 800 Grammy performances of all time. Nobody is going to discredit that. You're wasting your time.

All the stans of other artists and flat-out haters are simply angry because to those who thought their preferred artist was better than Christina; that performance made them look ridiculous.

That performance alone justified why she is hailed as 'The Voice of her Generation' and is ranked alongside Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey as one of the world's greatest vocalists.

Ain't No Other...

This comment comes much later than the original postings but nevertheless Christina was phenomenal. I was on the edge of my seat with chills running through my body...I always felt she was a talented young lady and over the years have stated so. However, Christina's rendition of "It's A Man's World" is still very vivid...because it seared into the souls of those who truly heard and saw the performance. The performance was a tribute to the Godfather of Soul, but that night when Christina sang "It's A Man's World", she stripped it to the core, soulfully delivered it to the audience and literally OWNED it!!!!

Stripped did cause a backlash, even though it did sell well. People bitched because it didn't sell as well as her previous album. But there is a HUGE difference in overall album sales when comparing 2000 and 2003. An album that sold 5 million copies in 2003 would have sold probably 7 million in 2000. These days, if an album sells five million, it's like Thriller territory.

I've been searching for the clip of christina singing James Brown's song for weeks that performance sent chills through my body . If your reading this Christina your voice is so soulful you need more material that can unleash all that soul you have inside I remember seeing you sing one of Whitney Houston songs and you sung the Hell out of it.

When i first heard christina was in genie in a bottle and then after that she kinda disappeared to me until "I turn to you" and i turned to her... her voice was amazing... in "coming over" that was fabulous... and then the back to basics cd really shocked me... she really got class... her voice is soulful and she's got a good clear vision ahead of her.. this song rendition from JB is so amazing it touched me deep inside... i felt like i was a towel being wringed by her aggressive motions with the microphone and her feelings for the song really shined through

I know I'm kind of last minute here but...That performance just has no words to descibe how shocked I am.Christina really out did any singer I've ever heard. Her performance needs to be written in history. She needs more grammys than what she has.Girl you get an infinity out of 10 for that performance.
Oh and to zingzing quit causing drama and shut up.You probably think Chris Brown should be called a legend.I'll admit he ain't the worst singer, but he ain't a legend.Legend of what Micheal Jackson/Usher wanna bes.

This young lady did a wonderful job. I have been listening to music for almost 50 years and all kinds of stuff from Bluegrass to Rock. I was a teenager when JB came out with Payback and a lot of other stuff. I did college with EWF, The Spinners, and in fact I was fortunate enough to be able to hear and see the Commodores practice regularly when they broke in big. Heck I even have vinyl LPs and 8-track tapes:-)

This young lady Christina has excellent talent and much more so than so many of her contemporaries. Recently she has been doing some really good work with some "old" music people like Herbie Hancock so she is getting some of the real music talent to help her fine tune that talent she has. If more of the current day artist actually could sing and did real music with half way decent lyrics the record companies would not have to cry about lost sales to illegal downloads. Nobody is buying because there is too much junk being pushed. This lady willl hopefully contribute to changing that.

She was simply outstanding.....

Zing: When you get a banned word message, there is also a number. I can't find out what the word is without the number.

As to the amazing Ms Aguilera, I believe she grew out of a Disney background, like looney Spears and the awesome Justin Timberlake. I don't care at all about sales figures big or small, but if you listen to either "Stripped" or "Back To Basics" without too many preconceptions they are absolutely top albums.

The former is just great immediate raunchy dance pop plus a couple of entirely heart-rending songs. The latter is far more ambitious and sonically dense.

I didn't like it at first as the production is, presumably deliberately, much more compressed sounding at first, you know, like The Fall or something. It's turned out to be a far more substantial body of work than I ever expected, a real classic in fact.

i agree with the sensor-baiting stuff (especially looking back at things like the "Dirty" video), but there has been something of a maturing process that is pretty evident on the latest record.

i mean, 3 or 4 years ago it would have been unthinkable that she could have been on the same stage as Tony Bennett and not embarrassed herself.

madonna doesn't have the greatest voice. that's true, and christina's voice is technically superior. (i'm no big fan of technical anything, however... it's a bit of a useless point, really.) but you have to look at any post-madonna female solo artist, especially the teenie boppers, and wonder. with christina's censor-baiting and swift image changing, she's definitely in the madonna mold.

don't agree. Aquilera has waaay more in the way of vocal chops than Madonna does. (and i like Madonna)
