About a year ago, I sent a bunch of comments on this page, because I thought I had to defend my mother tongue, Persian (Farsi) against the numerous attacks which claimed it was not a professional language, an accent of Arabic, stupid, not capable of explaining modern issues like quantum physics, having only 300 simple verbs, a dead language, etc.

Today, I decided to check the page again; and thanks to the editor of the site who banned the apparently many names which actually used the same IP address to attack Farsi, I found that no more misleading comments are being posted.

Keep on the great job guys! It is interesting to see this broad range of ideas about the movie. I personally believe that the scenes were indeed entertaining, but they were also made so exaggerating that it was clear this movie was not made to reflect history.

Monika i know that the movie has been twisted for cinematic reasons but the basic storyline is what you see(basicly 300 spartans vs 700000 persians i think) anw the most important is the courage that was showned from the true leonidas and 300 spartans

Well...this was an interesting page. I'm writing a summary and reaction essay to movie reviews of The 300. Personally...I loved the movie. But then again i'm just an ignorant white midwestern american who doesn't know their history lessons.

Andreas don't be stupid, listen to the poor Greek kid a couple of comments before.
I loved the 300 movie, and I have Persian in my background. My mate told me it was made close to the graphic novel, so the Persians were made to look disgusting. It doesn't actually mean they ARE feral and obviously the story has some truth, but it has gone far off the track.
The effects were fantastic, and the movie entertaining. But a lot of people don't like it, cause they say it will lead people off the track and actually believe the story by the actual movie.
Which unfortunately, there will always be an uneducated bum that watches it and thinks Persians are like that. So in that case it sucks.
That was a mad movie! :D

Yes i agree with the guy before me but NOT with the persian boy
The story is true
Greek historians have wrote these facts
And as you know modern history has began from these historians
So the movie is not a lie!!!!

People who believe in this fucking story, are as stupid as a donkey.
I don't know what can I do against this damn movie, but I'm sure that the way of PERSIANS will get back to a BIG LIE called "300".

Hey everybody!I'm from greece so excuse my english.I would like to leave a comment for this movie.I think that from the side of the cast, the script and of course the effects the movie is a masterpiece. Now there are some things which don't match to the original greek story such as that efialtis is something like a goblin or that the speciall persian troop 'the immortals' were ninja-monsters and that there were monsters in the army of Xerxis.Of course Efialtis was a nearby peasant and a normal person, nothing to do with the spartans, however he trade them. Second the immortals were the speciall troop of the persian army but they were normal persian warriors and again nothing to do with ninjas or monsters. At last there were no monsters in the persian army. That points (and some other)were added from the director to give more interest to the story. In my opinin it's ok but in some cases the director is overdoning it.Never the less i think it's a great movie and worths seeing it many times.

What are you, some kind of Film School Reject? Set aside the terrible scripts, Bay doesn't even know how to tell a story visually. Most of the films I have suffered through, he has his most visually dynamic scene early on, causing the rest of the film to become boring to look at. Armageddon, Bad Boys,...I'd mention another but bad things happen when you mention three Bay titles in a row.

sure the history may be a little off but ur missing the point. the point is sum1 actually had the guts to go and fight against pretty much the world even tho they new they didnt have a chance of actually winning they could at least hold off the seige until sparta would decide to go to war. just because u live in a world were u do as ur told and sit in ur apartment thinking that everything is ok dont mean thats the real world.

"Not since the films of Sam Peckinpah has killing looked so good on the big screen."

aisdjas. That means that they don't show what it is to murder. It means that they got it wrong!

The film was dumb. The accents were random, the history was butchered. The only redeeming point was the chuckles I got from the men in little undies and red satin cloaks standing all muscly and glistening and going "it's going to be a rough night!"

But then I realised they were standing in front of a wall of human bodies. It didn't have the punch that Troy did in relation to the act of murder. Achillies, though not enough, in the film version was faced with the horrible nature of his murdering when Priam came to get Hector's body. "I loved my son from the moment he opened his eyes to the moment you closed them."

300 was a mess. I haven't read the graphic novel, but if was as shallow as the film, I pity the trees that died for the paper.

It didn't have to say murder was wrong. But it tried to make the 300 into heroes and not examine them as people. And do heroes have no feelings towards the people they murder? The film kind of shrugged and showed you some nekkid flesh.

300 was a lot of oiled, hard male bodies, running around with a snarl on their lips killing other really odd looking people in impossible costumes. It must have taken Xerxes 4 hours to put on all his chains, doodads and other lovely equipment. So much of it was ridiculous that I could not recommend it. I was able to watch it in about 35 minutes with the aid of my trusty "really fast forward" button.

There are some to point in these :
1. As a movie, this is a good one. But, in the end, wheter you like it or not, the message is wrong. Good American, good persian and others become so cruel say every bad vocabullary to insult each other.
2. Even, American film maker has told about how glorious eastern culture but still they put american message or american heroes in it. It's film style. The film about the Gaul (France) in Asterix always put Romans a bad guy. The spicy things about film is we can make our own thing more in everyway. Im any kind of film made by any nation of film maker. The film won't make any other persian less value than others.
3. For some who compare the comic graphic with nazi. I dont think its a good one. The German nazi is true, but the comic is not. Good people and bad people exist by many aspect such as family, neighbourhood, religion, social class, childhood upbringing etc.
4. Just be objective. You denie to be racist but all of you become racist to each other by saying bad things that you know only from short list of information and lack of experience.
5. Face the fact that eastern and western is influence by each other in so many ways. Any persons who says that his country is the number one by underestimating others also consider cauvinist including American who judge persian as chauvinist. Remember cahuvinism has brought us into war in WW II.
6. Keep the comment to the film not anything else beyond.

Iranian nationality does not exist By Edward N. Luttwak
Tuesday, May 08, 2007

As for the claim that the "Iranians" are united in patriotic support for the nuclear program, no such nationality even exists. Out of Iran's population of 70 million or so, 51 percent are ethnically Persian, 24 percent are Turks ("Azeris" is the regime's term), with other minorities comprising the remaining quarter. Many of Iran's 16-17 million Turks are in revolt against Persian cultural imperialism; its 5-6 million Kurds have started a serious insurgency; the Arab minority detonates bombs in Ahvaz; and Baluch tribesmen attack gendarmes and Revolutionary Guards. If some 40 percent of the British population were engaged in separatist struggles of varying intensity, nobody would claim that it was firmly united around the London government. On top of this, many of the Persian majority oppose the theocratic regime, either because they have become post-Islamic in reaction to its many prohibitions, or because they are Sufis, whom the regime now persecutes almost as much as the small Bahai minority. So let us have no more reports from Tehran stressing the country's national unity. Persian nationalism is a minority position in a country where half the population is not even Persian. In our times, multinational states either decentralize or break up more or less violently; Iran is not decentralizing, so its future seems highly predictable, while in the present not much cohesion under attack is to be expected."
