Not to worry, Toshiba has a HDTV receiver that will record direct to a DVD, 2 hours on DVD5 and 4 hrs on DVD9. Who cares about Blu-ray or HD-DVD? No news on the HDTV quality: 720p vs. 1080i, etc. It'll be released before Christmas, natch. But maybe HDTV porn will be TOO lifelike! You may have to drape a big piece of gauze across that 60" plasma to get that good old fuzziness.

Janus- First of all, you can see from the links I provided where I got this information. The sources I got them from aren't just wild rumors. This is the original link in which Adult Playground director There Joone announced that he'll start publishing his films in HD-DVD format because he claims that Sony wouldn't let its Blu-Ray facilities publish his movies. Here is the original link to Blu-ray Disc Association Vicechair Marty Gordon's indirect response to Joone's accusations. Second, I never said that I personally believed that porn was the winning factor in the 80s format wars, nor will it be for the current format war. The phrase "it has been argued that one of the deciding factors..." is OBJECTIVE. It means that there are those who have considered that the adult industry was ONE OF SEVERAL factors (not the only one) that MAY have affected the outcome between VHS and Beta. Third, I didn't say that Sony made a mistake. I said that, based on general observation, it "seemed doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past." If you're going to blame anyone for spreading rumors, blame There Joone for making those accusations against Sony, not me. Thank you for your comment.

Sony made a mistake? OMG where do you get your news. They never had control over the process in its entirety. They couldn't say no even if they wanted to. The fact is that it was always open to adult media. It was just FUD. the fact is the cost was and is prohibitive. If you're one to believe that porn determines the winner of a format I feel bad for you. You're better off looking at Disney to be a driving force. You see, early adopters are likely to have kids. You're not gonna get porn for your kids are you. NOT. So the only logical choice for these segments are BD. Add to that the 7 other major studios and you have almost a "badge". your reporting must have been from the other rumors that fly around the net. Have you ever gotten a quote from a Sony rep? probably not, so it wasn't Sony's change of heart it was your mistake. Be different and research something before you blog or report on it. It seems like everyone wants to be a writer these days just cause they have a keyboard. Its more like high school gossip that gets spread and the real researchers know whats going on. Thats how I know and I'm not a fanboy or reporter. What does that say about my credentials?
