Mike Vick Doesn't Deserve Your Respect
Published January 20, 2007
Michael Vick is a 7-year NFL veteran. Possessing tremendous physical skills, the Atlanta Falcons quarterback is adept at running the football and on occasion throwing it as well. His problem is mental, and not as in a road block. He's a poor decision maker and apparently doesn't have the mental acuity to grasp complex offensive schemes.
Unfortunately, if the previous is mentioned nationally by a member of the press, the word "racist" is brought up. Why? In the world of sports, the fact remains it's usually ahead of any other segment of society with respect to race. There are problems but not nearly the ones found at major corporations or in government service. Still, to knock Michael Vick is, for some, to knock African Americans.
The Critic doesn't question the skills of Donovan McNabb, a healthy Daunte Culpepper or Charlie Batch. I do question Michael Vick, because he makes significantly more money than most and is at best an average passer. His race matters not, for his play speaks volumes about his lack of maturity. It seems as though he's not much different than his younger brother, a thug.
Add into the mix the latest escapade of Mike Vick attempting to carry onto a plane a water bottle with a concealed compartment allegedly reeking of marijuana. Frankly the marijuana is less of an issue for me. More telling is the stupidity involved. Why would an average, intelligent human being with the star power of Vick attempt such a thing? Make no mistake, it happens daily, but those people — along with Vick — are not bright.
Mike Vick's free pass is pulled. He's not a great quarterback nor is he a role model for anyone. He's a stupid man who would have been piled on if he were Hispanic, white, or an average player of any race. He's not a kid and this isn't about race — it's about moronic behavior.

Oh look, a bona fide racist - how quaint! Bless its pointed little head.
As a resident of Metro Atlanta, Mike Vick is heralded as a Great Player and Role Model. It truly is great to see hte Real Mike Vick get just exactly what He deserves. The Atlanta Falcon Management, has been blind to his reality.
"Negroes usually don't make good quarterbacks. Or leaders of any kind for that matter."
What utter disgraceful sh.t. Despite having heard this argument in the US before, I'll admit I don't know too much about American Football, but as an aficionado of top-level rugby, a game where players have to think in a split second or get smashed and which is played a lot faster than the American game, I can tell you that the man who's been regarded for many years as one of the top halfbacks in the world, Australia captain George Gregan, is an African/Australian of Zambian descent.
To say he is a superlative organiser would be an understatement. He has played for more than a decade at the absolute pinnacle of a very, very tough sport and is a World Cup winner to boot (having scored a try too in the 1998 final against France).
In fact Gregan has made more appearances for the national team than any other player in the history of the sport.
Arguably, the three best halves in the world in the past decade have been Joost Van der Westhuizen (South Africa), Justin Marshall (New Zealand, and a Maori) and Gregan.
In the Super 14 regional competition played by teams from South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, plenty of halfbacks and five-eighths (or fly-halves, depending on which part of the world you come from) are black.
The current hope of the New South Wales Waratahs, 19-year-old Kurtley Beale, is an aborigine who has played for Australian Schoolboys and is probably one of the best and quickest thinking organisers at five-eighth I've ever seen.
I've never read so much racist rubbish in my life. If this quarterback can't play quarterback, it's because he can't play quarterback - nothing to do with his race.
Get back in your box Jeff ... and here's my tip: I'll bet you've never laced on a pair of boots in your life.
I'll end this once and for all (as I always do). I've written a PHP based program that spiders the web and responds to race related articles. In any case, many educated people are not aware that the human species originated from a single black woman in Africa and migrated to other parts of the world afterwards. The proof is in the science of "Mitochondial DNA". Every living species has the characterstics of the mirochondrial "finger print". No two species share that common print. The mitochondial strucures of europeans, asians, indians, eskimos, and africans are completely indentifical (even primates have diffenent mitochondial structures), but science has proven that it has been the environmental differences (temperature, sunlight exposure, climate etc..) that has been the cause of gene variation amongst the resulting diverse human race. Most importantly, science has also proven that the entire human family tree dates back to a single ancient tribe (and ultimately a woman) in the ancient Tanzanian area. Therefore, fee free to visit my posted link, and get educated about our original African grandparents (we ALL know that mathematics orginated in Egypt). This science has been barred from elementary school for reasons that are obvious of course.) The fact of the matter is this: There are stupid members of the human race period. There are whites that kidnap little boys and sexually assault them for years without giving them back to their parents and there are blacks that will try to smuggle drugs on a plane (especially if they are addicted). But know you know.. "All modern day humans originated from Africans".
"The world isn't just black and white, ultimately it's BLACK, but we're all equal".
Quiz: Guess what color I am? Tip: 90% of the whites that are racially "mentaly" challenged get the answer wrong.

Me too. It's called a Google News alert for "racism."
"Quiz: Guess what color I am? Tip: 90% of the whites that are racially "mentaly" challenged get the answer wrong."
Orange?
Hand wringing aside, these responses are typical of any discussion about race. This article is specifically about one athlete yet, in true form, someone steps up and offers stupidity followed by yet another who decides to write a book length post about biological origins.
This post proves the point that people troll for any race issue to stick their own warped views into it. It's sports.
My theory on Vick is that the reason he's not the best quarterback running around is because he's left handed and small (which means he has to look through, rather than over when he passes) - but you are right about people trolling for this stuff: Jeff's theory about "negroes" I find really annoying. I don't live in the US but am basing this on my own experience, given that the incumbent captain of the Wallabies is of African decent and one of the best organisers I've ever seen on a rugby field. It's too bizarre for words.
Let's pretend MV is white. He still isn't a successful QB. He still isn't a good passer. End of discussion.
Are we done now with the required "two minutes hate" of "Jeff" ???
Good. Because, you know, "Jeff" sounds rather like the White version of Michael Irvin...except "Jeff" doesn't have a national TV show or receive a six-figure salary for his "expertise" on football-related issues. So he's not really important or worth getting all upset about.
Wrong, RJ, he's behaving like a dickhead and deserves to get a gobful.
I am not sure if I should get angry or laugh. It is surprising how shallow some people can be and not surprising, such discontent people have nothing to show off their lives and accomplishments, they are ugly and bitter; but we did not make you dumb and ugly...do not take it out on us. Put your life together dude, be adviced your biggest competitor and enemy is yourself not us. Take it easy!
"His race matters not, for his play speaks volumes about his lack of maturity. It seems as though he's not much different than his younger brother, a thug."
Actually, His play speaks volumes about his lack of maturity and talent. It says nothing about him being a thug.
Trying to take marijuana on a plane is a bone-headed move but not really a "thug" move.
Bottom Line: He's just not a good quarterback period.Probably a better wide receiver.Let's just hope he can catch better than he can throw because he absolutely should catch a HUGE ration of sh*t for this dumbass move!!Open question to ESPN: Why is Michael Irvin still employed by ESPN?
Nice article, although I'd have to say I'm not sold on a healthy Daunte Culpepper either. But that's neither here nor there. It has nothing to do with his race or even his character, which I think is brought into question for good reason. It does have to do with him, for whatever reason, not being as good a football player as he is advertised.
STM, Vince Yung will tell us a lot about your theory. He seems to possess many of Vick's characteristics, right down to the questions about his mental capacity for the game. Yet he, being 6'5, will offset the biggest excuse for Vick's poor play, that being his short stature. I don't know about Yung throwing with his left hand; I can't recall at the moment what hand he throws with and don't feel like digging up some video of him to find out at present.

Negroes usually don't make good quarterbacks. Or leaders of any kind for that matter. McNabb and Culpepper are also highly overrated. McNabb is an above-average QB, but not much of a leader. (Remember his 4th quarter meltdown in the Super Bowl?) Jeff Garcia's strong and vigorous leadership this year stood in stark contrast to McNabb's nonchalant style. Culpepper's not as much of a thug as Vick, but he's still a thug--remember the boat incident? Think you'd find Tom Brady or Peyton Manning cavorting on a boat like that? Culpepper hasn't done anything in this league without Randy Moss on his team. It's not that blacks don't have the arm strength or physical tools to play QB--they lack strong decision-making and leadership skills. Or to put it more bluntly, they lack the intelligence.
