Independent music artists who are looking to get exposure in the video game industry will have their shot with a partnership announced by Konami. The long-running Dance Dance Revolution series is looking for some fresh material and by tag-teaming with Broadjam, members of the independent music site can compete to be included in a future iteration of the title to be released in 2007.

Those interested in submitting tracks to Konami will have their shot when the contest begins on Monday, January 15. The website will accept submissions until February 28.

The submissions must be between 1:30-7:00 in length (with the agreement that, if selected, Konami can edit the length of the song), the tempo must be more than 120 beats per minute (no upper limit), audio samples must be legal and lyrics may not contain profanity or overt sexual or drug references.

“Strong and/or catchy melodies lend themselves to this game,”  Konami says to artists looking to give the contest a shot. “This catchy-ness factor is paramount to this game. The music is the central game play mechanic, so catchy, memorable songs are what we are looking for.”

Once a song is uploaded, visitors on the site are able to review it and will be able to give their input on the music using Broadjam’s song contest system. The reviews will continue until March 7, when the results will determine which songs are presented to Konami.

Artists will vie for two prizes, with the winners, announced April 18, receiving a $1,000 cash prize on top of the inclusion in a future DDR title.
