Comic Book Review: Civil War # 6 (Civil War) - Marvel Comics
Published January 12, 2007
The war is almost over. No, not that war! Issue 6 of Marvel’s Civil War has come out, and we’re just one issue away from the ending that will “change the Marvel universe FOREVER!” That’s what Marvel claims, anyway.
In the end of issue 5, Iron Man and Spider-Man had a nasty breakup that led to Spidey getting his new Tony Stark-issued costume ripped off of him. Before pro-registration villains could attack him further, he was saved by the most well-armed vigilante in all comics, the Punisher.
Thanks to the ambush on Spider-Man, Spider-Man’s new red and gold suit is gone and he’s back in his traditional red and blue costume. Now the anti-registration heroes have the Punisher on their side. What a bonus! At least, I thought it was a bonus.
I’ll spare anyone reading this the details, but this poor, whacked-out killer of anything evil really gets the short end of the stick in this issue. The looks of disgust and whispers of disapproval in issue 5 were bad enough, but what he’s reduced to now is just unfair, in my opinion. You’ll just have to read to witness what goes down.
In other events, the pro-registration side of the war is going ahead with the 50 states initiative. The 50 states initiative puts a superhero team in every state of the US. We get to see the training of one such team, a new Champions team that will protect California.
While they train, Reed Richards is back at the operating table getting the Thor clone/robot/whatever ready for another battle. Richards promises no more heroes will end up dead at the creepy Clor’s hands this time. Seriously, did we really need a clone Thor? You can probably tell I dislike what the pro-registrants are doing.
The pro-registrants have the brilliant minds of Reed Richards and Tony Stark, the government, and super-villains on their side, so one would think the conclusion of this war is bad news for the anti-registrants. Readers who have not liked the idea of heroes giving up their vigilante lives to work for the government won’t like it if the pro-registrants win. I would hope that Tony Stark and crew do not win.
