US Congressman Neil Abercrombie Suggests Condoleezza Rice "Gets a Pass" Because She's Black

Why can a liberal US Congressman get away with saying something “racist’ that had previously cost a conservative talk show host his job as a television commentator?

That’s a question that came to mind this morning as I read an newspaper article that recorded a recent interview with US Congressman Neil Ambercrombie (D-HI).

Before I get to Ambercrombie and his interview let me give some background on why I am raising this question.

In late September 2003, while working as a football commentator for ESPN, conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh raised the question as to whether it was possible that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was overrated because the media wanted to see a black quarterback succeed.

Limbaugh resigned from his ESPN position three days later under circumstances described by CNN as being, “amid a storm of controversy over his racially charged comments.”

In today’s Honolulu Star-Bulletin Abercrombie is quoted as describing U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as being

the most overrated, underperforming individual in executive authority that I have ever seen.”

“She constantly gets a pass. Who knows if the whole question of race and gender come into it, but . . .

What’s the difference between these two comments? The difference is that Limbaugh’s comment created a “storm of controversy over his racially charged comments” and he was force to resign as an ESPN football commentator.

Abercrombie, on the other hand, “gets a pass.”

I wonder why?

Hmmm... I see a big difference. Limbaugh outright stated that the media wanted McNabb to succeed because he was black, whereas Abercrombie floats the possibility of Condi getting a pass because of her "blackness" without either committing to the idea or directly accusing anybody of doing so.

"...[RICE] the most overrated, underperforming individual in executive authority that I have ever seen. She constantly gets a pass. Who knows if the whole question of race and gender come into it, but ...I can't account for it, except to say she isn't up to the mark."

"Who knows if the whole question of race and gender come into it..."

"Who knows..."

BOP

Limbaugh was an employee. He was fired from a PRIVATE company which happens to exists largely because of Black athlets .... essentially.

Ambercrombie is an elected official. We will see when he runs next time if his statement will come up to haunt him.

Why don't you make a bigger deal about this so that the masses will go out with torches.

WOW. That was a really messed up thing to say. I think it is a big deal. I'd say it more closely parallels the whole Trent Lott ordeal than Rush (though the comments were more similar to Rush's), because he is an elected official making derisive comments about race. And yeah, actually there is a pretty big diff between this jackoff snd Rush: what this guy said was way worse.
Rush said their may have been a little social concern; that the media was desirous for McNabb to do well (which he hasn't) because he's a black QB- rare. This dem said Rice is awful, but she gets a pass for being a black girl. I don't know anything about this obscure rep., but if he is in a leadership position on any committee, shouldn't he be forced to step down just as Lott did? I think so.

Bird - I don't think that Ms Rice has done a particularly admirable job as Secretary of State, but then again I think that Bush and his entire Administration is a gaggle of mediocrities.

Still, Neil Ambercrombie's comments are typical of many liberals and so-called progressives who are racist, but who only feel free to express their racism against blacks who are not liberal or Democrats. This is the ugly flip side of the coin of conservatives who cannot imagine that anyone might see Barak Obama as a genuine presidential contender, and instead have to invent "affirmative action" reasons for his rise to prominence.

Just for the record, yall:

"race and gender" "come into it" in the course of every human interaction.

Some-but-not-all get a "pass" because of 'em.

Some-but-not-all get a disadvantage because of 'em.

Regardless of the political persuasion of the Doer or the Do-ee.

I hate to point out the obvious, but I also hate to waste my time contemplating universal simplicities.

====

BTW: I thought Rush's controversy was a tempest in a teapot. Sorta like this one.

ie, a distraction; a tiny, swinging pocketwatch tossed into an invisible cage -- meant to hypnotize imprisoned semi-domesticated primates [all "colors", btw] -- while the Real Bad Guys cart away their nation.

~yer getting sleepy, America.

Carry on.

Carrie sed: dem said Rice is awful, but she gets a pass for being a black girl.

You are lying.

You see discussing politics doesn't give you permission to lie. You just lied. That is not what "dem" said. We all read it. Why don't "we" just stop lying to win political points for "our" side.

and yet, Donovan McNabb is a flop as a quarterback, which has nothing to do with his race and Rice is a flop as Secretary, which has nothing to do with her typing skills.

#9 — January 12, 2007 @ 21:26PM — Bliffle

C Rice seems to always get a pass, but I don't know why. She's one of those people who's good at getting the job and then does nothing notable while applying for her next job. It's just ambition, but probably not race or gender.

Asshole.

Well, that part's right, at least...

Trying to steal the show as usual, eh, Shark?

For what my few shekels are worth, Condaleeza Rice is a well dressed whore who knows how to cross and uncross her legs for the lust ridden idiots who run the countries in the Middle East, and who knows how to use the teeth in her vagina to squeeze self-same fools into concessions.

I've seen her hate stares on women like her before in the past, and they don't fool me one bit.

But she is a whore from the CFR, and she does a workmanlike job of being a whore. There is no shame in that. Not only is whoring the world's oldest profession, but most politicians of both sexes are whores also.

But she is a businesswoman from the oil industry, which means she knows how to cut someone's balls off or slice someone at the wrist as well. She's already demonstrated this ability amply with Ehud (the idiot) Olmert.

Going beyond this, though, I have to agree with Alec [comment #5]. The shitting American president heads a gaggle of geese, incompetents all of them, including the unlamented Colon Bowel who used to occupy Rice's seat.

Since you are such a good cook, Shark, why don't you fry us up some more Rice. I'm hungry. Throw some mushrooms in too, the cloudy kind...
