Music Review: Omarion - 21

R&B vocalist Omarion's sophomore CD, 21, has jumped on the scene with cool “chillin at the club” upbeat tempos and sexycrazysmooth ballads that will get any evening started right. Ooooh Omarion, you definitely stepped out of the freshman class with honors on this one!

Omarion delivers an eclectic mix of mature content and intoxicating rhythm that will almost make you forget that he is only 21. His powerful lyrics represent a vibe and groove that he is coming into his own by truly exposing his unique talent with each track.

For my own private listening party collection, my personal favorite picks from 21 are "Ice Box", "Midnight", "Entourage", and "Just Can’t Let it Go". "Ice Box" was one of the first songs to hit the airwaves giving us a quick peek at Omarion’s flair for the use of rhythmic poetry and possibly first-hand experiences. "Ice Box" is an all too real account of heartbreak, missed relationships, and moving beyond love’s disappointments. I loved it and his collaboration with Timbaland on this track could not have made it any more perfect. "Midnight" is the hour at which you ask yourself, “Do you know where your man is?” Well, Omarion accounts for his time with someone else at midnight with this slow, seductive ballad. He consciously knows he should be at home but instead gives in to his desire to be with someone else. "Entourage" is the first track on 21 that sets the right mood for an extended road trip or just laying back and enjoying the R&B groove. The other tracks on the CD are just as smooth and additive with collaboration of another music powerhouse, the Neptunes.

Because of 21’s smooth, harmonious nature and maturity in the music, there are songs on the CD that the grown and sexy crowd would definitely appreciate as well as the younger die-hard “club fan”. 21 is one of those CDs you play all the way to the end without skipping to your favorite songs. Believe me if you skip on this CD you will certainly miss out. I am elated that true R&B is making a comeback and Omarion is representing in full force with his second composition. 21 is taking us back to the foundation of the rhythm and blues crooner who can get us excited about listening to real music again.
