TV Review: Boston Legal - "On the Ledge"
Published December 01, 2006
He ties Shirley up in a 'safe room' and shows her the arrow he booby-trapped to hit whoever opens the door. For once, he has planned things out. Usually, he just whacks people over the head if they cross him. One judge died after Lincoln hit him, although Gracie Jane (Jill Bennett) is alive. She never saw her attacker. Good news for Lincoln.
The bad news is that Paul Lewiston (Rene Auberjonois) realizes something is amiss when Shirley never makes it to work. After informing Jeffrey Coho (Craig Bierko), Claire Simms (Constance Zimmer), Brad Chase (Mark Valley), and Denise Bauer (Julie Bowen) that nobody seems to have heard from her, he calls the cops.
Denise lets the detective know Lincoln wants revenge and that he's teetering on the edge of sanity. Unfortunately, it is not enough for a search warrant. Brad offers to pay Lincoln a visit and see what happens. Despite one protest (three guesses who doubted), Brad and Claire try to get into Lincoln's home. Lincoln is suspicious, although Claire is working on his defense in case he gets arrested for killing the judge. He refuses to let them in. Brad never speaks, but pays close attention.
When they return to the firm, Brad says he is sure Shirley is being held captive and offers to rescue her. Denise reminds him a priest's fingers were cut off the last time he tried a rescue ("Gone"). Alan enters and is filled in on things. He writes out a false statement saying Lincoln called to confess about being Shirley's captor. The ruse is enough to help Paul convince the detective he should take action.
As tensions mount, Lincoln's house is surrounded by cops and the SWAT team. Paul, Brad, Jeffrey, and Claire arrive not long afterwards. Brad asks if he can come along, which the cop refuses to allow. When the front door is battered in, Shirley realizes the room isn't soundproof. She yells her head off and Lincoln ends up wounded by his own arrow. He's taken away on a stretcher and Shirley is surrounded by her colleagues.
Back at the office, Denise tells Alan that Shirley is safe. He suggests they 'celebrate' with sex. Upon hearing Denise ask if he ever quits, Alan says yes. However, he suggests she does not want him to. Shirley walks in and is not surprised by his words. She threatens to fire him should he ever lie on an affidavit again and then thanks him for saving her life. He tries using the same line on her as on Denise, but she retorts he should cool his jets. When they leave, Denise looks back at Alan with an expression somewhere between longing and disgust.

I'm assuming they might have meant watch to see what happens to Shirley. But, generally speaking, the balcony scene takes the last five minutes.
Spinoffs are never supposed to be carbon copies of the original shows. What's the point? There are other shows to watch other than BL if you enjoy a law focus.
As for The Practice, perhaps the cast may show up at one point or another. I wouldn't know, since I am not privy to advance info. My sources are the ones available to everyone-such as TV Guide.

"final five minutes did not make sense."
I totally agree!!! My wife and I watched it and we were questioning if this was the show that in fact said to watch the final 5 mintues.
ABC is really trying HARD to tank this show.
But before they do, can the people who put BL together GIVE US AN EPISODE OR TWO WITH SOME LAWYERS FROM "THE PRACTICE." We want to see a case up against Bobby, Lindsay, Eleanor, Jimmy (who has a firm of which Jamie is an associate), or one with JUDGE Eugene.
Come on David E. Kelley. STOP ALIENNATING FANS OF THE PRACTICE.
