No details have surfaced about the possible deal but it has been reported that they are ironing out the final details, such as how long iTunes would have exclusivity and the possible use of a Beatles song in a commercial.

FYI: In 1985, Michael Jackson purchased the ATV Music Publishing company, which owns the Beates music publishing catalogue (among others) In 1995, he merged that catalogue with Sony Music Publishing creating Sony/ATV Music Publishing (Go to www.sonyatv.com for a list of the songs it owns) Today Sony/ATV is worth over $1 billion.
Michael so far, retains his 50%.

Just to add:
What held up the deal is the fact that Sony/ATV owns the songs (ie: the lyrics, etc) not the masters.
