New Songs of The Week: Witches in Bikinis, Alexa Ray Joel, More...
Published October 19, 2006
If your tastes range more toward a metal edged, classic rock sound you will probably want to check out the UK-based band Messiah. I’m not sure what they are here to save us from but perhaps it could be Britney Spears and her poptart clones along with the boy bands they date. At any rate, if your soul is cryin' for salvation then go check out Messiah’s new song Living In Fear and download it for free if you like it.
If you hear the name Francine And Her Ruby Slippers what comes to mind? Dorothy and the Tin Man? Oz? Well forget all that, Francine is made up of four guys from New England who play progressive rock and do a good job with it. They have a new song up called Cure For The Common Cold.
I like to be In The Fur and so do these guys I guess cause that’s their name. The band is a quartet fronted by Randy Goodman and they list Pink Floyd, Bowie and other greats as their influence. They say they want to bring greatness back to rock and judging from their song "7 Pigeons" they are well on their way to doing that. I think I am going to try to catch these guys live next time they are in the city.
So there you have it for today. Cool songs from artists you probably haven’t ever heard of… yet.

Always love hearing about new-to-me music...thanks for giving me a few more to check out.
Great job!!

Covering mainstream music, the New York City indie rock scene and off-Broadway theater productions. Also articles on science, the ongoing effects of climate change, and alternative energy.

Billy Joel's daughter making music of her own, now that makes me feel old.
It seems like only yesterday he was writing lullabies and naming ships after her on the Storm Front album.
She definitely has his eyes although they definitely look better on her. The sound is more Nora Jones than dear old dad though.
