MeeVee Interviews Degrassi: The Next Generation's Daniel Clark

Daniel Clark marked his return to Degrassi: The Next Generation this season in true Sean Cameron style. His character kissed his old girlfriend, got in an illegal street race, and ended up jailed for assault. During a break in filming, we had the chance to catch up with Daniel. Here’s what he had to say about the show, dating, and what makes a real man.
What made you decide to return to Degrassi after a year and a half off?
Timing. It's a great show, why not? I had confidence this was going to be a great season. I'll do anything challenging. That’s why I’m taking acting classes; no one is perfect. You can always improve.
What was it like to wake up and realize you weren’t a part of Season 5?
I don't watch every week, so it didn't really matter. The unfortunate thing was not working with the cast, crew, and writers. But I was able to see them. I met up with them at a mall tour in Los Angeles. That’s the only time I thought about it.
What is your favorite episode of Degrassi?
My favorite episodes are the first two in season six — "Here Comes Your Man Parts 1 & 2." Before that, it was "Time Stands Still." I'm in awe of how it all came together. It was awesome.
Was it hard to deal with the school shooting issue? What was your reaction when you read the script?
It was intense. It was a long time coming with the bullying and Rick. When I read it, it was like, “Whoa.” It (the bullying) escalated quickly.
What can you tell us about the path Sean is taking as a character this season? Is Sean ever going to catch a break?
Maybe. Life's not fair. Degrassi does a good job of reflecting this. A show can hire models to act, but their days are numbered. They can have great ratings, but it doesn’t last forever. It’s important for people to be able to relate to the characters on the show. HBO does a great job; they have actors who put it on the line with shows like Six Feet Under. It’s not glamorous. Shows like this — they're bringing it and they’re not typical. That’s so important.
What’s your take on the two major onscreen relationships you’ve had? Who do you think Sean will end up with?
Well, it's a story, it's completely make-believe. Both relationships are crazy but both are good for fans. Everyone has their issues. It doesn't matter if you love them. Sean didn't have to deal with either of their issues, he left. He comes back when the issues are already settled.

The show isn't the same when sean's character isn't in the script. It would also be very interesting to see Daniel in a program more becoming to older viewers like me. I'm 26 and i would love to see his acting in a film that is solely based around his character, whatever it may be. He has a way of engaging his viewers with his realness, sweet smile and beautiful eyes. Are there any other programs with Daniel that are available in the U.S viewing area? I would really like to know. GRAHAM, NC
