Comic Review: DC Comics (Post Infinite Crisis) 52, Week 15
Published September 27, 2006
Well, this is the event I believed would happen and it's the ending I should have expected. Still, it's unbelievable that Booster Gold's life as a superhero has ended in such a way.
Since Infinite Crisis, Booster Gold has been a troubled man. His best friend, Ted Kord, was killed. His robot companion, Skeets, is having trouble accurately recalling future events and he has stooped as low as to pay off actors to portray villains. Booster Gold had also become a big jerk, frustrated and angry.
Still, with the person Booster Gold had become in 52, I would have never seen this issue coming this soon. It was a real possibility that Booster Gold was going to die, but Booster really goes out like a scrub on week 15.
In week 15, Booster is still bitter about Supernova becoming a media darling while Booster only continues to lose sponsors. Supernova and Booster bump heads on the way to take out a slimy Ballostro monster that has a nuclear sub stuck in its back. Let's just say the submarine is a factor in Booster's demise, poor guy. His death, even though it could be true, is still up for a bit of speculation.
Supernova is the only one who is able to retrieve Booster's remains, so there could have been some time travel funny business on Booster Gold's behalf. If this is the true end of Booster, then I'll miss him. Awful guy or not, he was a fun character to read.
Only one other story made it to week 15 - the daring escape of Montoya and Question from a Kahndaq prison. Yay! At least there was some upside to this tragic week. The supplement at the end of week 15 is about Steel, who isn't doing so hot currently. Steel's story may not be the most interesting, but I appreciate reading his origin story.
