<description>I think the real problem, judging from the excerpts you&#039;ve posted, is that Mr. Paffenroth isn&#039;t bringing out anything that hasn&#039;t been gone over a million times prior. The Dead series is one of the most (over)analyzed works in horror - hell, film - history. Not that it doesn&#039;t deserve that kind of close reading, but find a new angle or something if you&#039;re going to try and publish.

And I dunno... I&#039;m as hardy a gorehound as any, and I still admit that &lt;i&gt;The Passion&lt;/i&gt; was absurdly violent. (I was inspired to rechristen it &lt;i&gt;Ichi the Jesus&lt;/i&gt; upon leaving the theater.) Maybe it&#039;s not as sickening as the furthest reaches of the Italian-cannibal subgenre, but I&#039;d say it&#039;s definitely got one over on both &lt;i&gt;Saw&lt;/i&gt; and &lt;i&gt;Hostel&lt;/i&gt;. But then, I thought the latter two were mostly bark and little bite. So there&#039;s that.</description>
