Elton John, curator of the Fashion Rocks event, will kick off New York's Fashion Week with the September 7 concert. The proceeds will benefit his AIDS foundation. The two-hour concert event will be aired on CBS the following night and the entire show will be available via a webstream on the Att Blue Room website September 10 at 7 p.m. Eastern.
Performers will also include Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Kanye West, Bon Jovi, the Black Eyed Peas, Jamie Foxx, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Nelly Furtado, Daddy Yankee, the Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna, and Scissor Sisters.
Speaking of the connection between the fashion world and music, Richard Beckman, president of Conde Nast Media Group and an executive producer of the show, said Thursday, "Today, the worlds of fashion and music are merging faster than ever, with multiple artists including Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z capitalizing on this synergy by launching fashion lines of their own."
Elton John AIDS foundation, one of the world's leading non-profit organization benefiting prevention of and education about HIV/AIDS, was founded in 1992 by Elton John in response to the outrage he felt over how little was being done to help those infected with the virus. The foundation has distributed over $65 million around the globe.
Elton John is known for more than 40 years of music and flamboyant onstage shows and costumes as well as his extensive charity work. Aside from writing the musical Lastat, which opened on Broadway in April 2006, and Billy Elliot – The Musical, which opened in 2005 at the Victoria Palace Theater in London, he continues to perform his concert series The Red Piano – Elton John at The Coliseum at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.

Elton John is a better singer then Jay Z
what if Elton John had his Fashion Rocks Concert in 1979

I turned the TV on and this was on...geez, the first thing I see is a short, fat Elton with some horrible looking woman. I think to myself, "I want to know who this nasfty woman is because if I ever see her name in a movie or whatever. I want to AVOID it." It turns out to be a familiar name--Donna Karan. Geez, is this what that famous woman looks like? Pancake breasts and a huge nose? She designs supposedly wonderful clothing? Yikes.
Then, before I can change the channel JayZ pops up spewing some pabulum: "The reason fashion rocks exists is because it is an extension of one's personality...one's creativity" It's like he's saying, "OK, I'll say anything you want for this stupid program. Just tell me what the name of it is and I'll whore it."
What a load of crap. Actually, it's just a cheap excuse for programming. Please. Fashion exists within rock (and Rihanna isn't "rock," by the way) because it's spontaneous and uncoordinated. Not on a stupid TV show.
The worst part was seeing Denis Leary take part in this stupid fest. Following him, some idiot designer named Marc Jacobs babbled some crap and then horribly introduced Christina Aguilera by mispronouncing her name (with gusto) as
"Christina AgWIlera!"
What an idiot. The portion of the show I saw was utterly stupid, like a train wreck I had to turn away from.
