PS2 Review: Guitar Hero
Published September 01, 2006
Guitar Hero is one of the few games that allows you to rock out, even if you can't play guitar. It is worth the money, although it cost $70. I've read many good reviews. People claim, "It's the best game on PS2."
I first encountered Guitar Hero staying at my cousins' house, I was immediately drawn in. Although, it took me three days to finally complete a song, I had fun. I usually do not get addicted to video games, but I swear I can sit in front of Guitar Hero all day.
Guitar Hero is similar to the popular game Dance Dance Revolution. If you're not familiar with the game, it's pretty simple. DDR comes with a step pad. It will tell you to step on a button in a sequence.
Guitar Hero runs the same way. It comes with a controller shaped as a guitar. It will tell you to press one of the color fret buttons while strumming the "strum bar." This may sound boring, but it really isn't. Once you add a little music, it is a fun activity to do with friends, family, or by yourself.
The game comes with over thirty rock songs to play. Most of which you "earn" for performing well. Some of the songs include: Iron Man, I Love Rock and Roll, More than a Feeling, Ziggy Stardust, Infected, and many more.
In addition, the product features eight different avatars — ones that have a green mohawk to ones that remind me of the guy from the Beatles (I think it's the glasses, I really do). There's four different difficulty levels (Easy, Medium, Hard, and Expert).
The game has a two-player mode, which I haven't tried, because we only have one controller. Although, my sister and I can compete against each other for high scores. After you play a song, it will remind you of the top five highest scores of each song on each level.
Earlier, I mentioned it took me three days to complete a song. Needless to say, I'm not very good at video games. Amanda, the sister, on the other hand, rocks. She completed a song on her second try and rules the high score board. When she beat my score on Ziggy Stardust, my last high score remaining, I nearly cried... she drives me crazy.
Although, it doesn't actually teach you how to play guitar, it is still good fun and it seems like you actual are playing. Because, if you don't hit a note, you won't hear it play. Also, you don't have to be interested in learning to play guitar to have fun. I know this because I absolutely have no desire to learn to play.
So, I totally give Guitar Hero two thumbs up. It is worth the money, it's fun and entertaining. It features great music, and makes a great present. I know this, because I got it for my sister. But I will warn you, once you start, you can't stop.
Guitar Hero is rated T (Teen) by the ESRB for Mild Lyrics.

Refer to my name pal.
The guitar needs plastic strings or something to make it more real.
More frets,
and damn! better riffs!
I cant beleive you actually put up a blog about it!
You might find one other person in this universe that agrees with you about Guitar Hero.

You had better practice hard, because GH II will be out in November!
