Have most of Mae’s relationships with bands on tour been this positive?

Jacob:  Developing relationships on the road is one of the coolest things about this experience.  Being able to relate to other people going through similar experiences, especially people that are so creative, enriches our lives.

You mentioned in your blog that you love the rush of roller coasters.  What do you do for a rush fix while on tour?

Jacob:  Right now, I am really getting into longboarding [downhill skateboarding] and snowboarding.  I also want to get into surfing.

Recently, the band publicly acknowledged that it was not a Christian band.  Is it difficult, especially creatively, when writers, critics, and even fans, try to pigeonhole the band into a genre?

Jacob:  People that approach us about being a Christian band often have an agenda.  I love God, but I hate the box that has been placed over Him.  Currently, I am reading a fascinating book by Paul Davies called The Mind of God [The Scientific Basis for a Rational World]. He paints a picture of today’s reality of God as that of a fairy tale.  I have even discussed the book on my blog.  I try to observe my own reality at the atomic and molecular level that gives rise to spirituality, which increases my awareness.

What do you think about the success of your blog?

Jacob:  It blows my mind that people want to read it.

As the band continues to be more and more successful, do you think you and your band mates will continue to be this open and expressive with the fans?

Jacob:  Absolutely.  Personally, we’re committed to living a life that creates and reflects how we’re living.  This is very important to me.  As an artist, I feel you need to express emotions and experiences to fans.  This creates a symbiotic relationship, where we can keep an open dialogue with fans.
