Futuro are just like their name implies – of the future. Futuro combine traditional pop-rock guitar riffs with short, spiky production, rich, creamy-smooth, vocals and the short punchy song writing style of frontman Jon McKellan to create a cool, upbeat, cutting edge sound. They are one band you just won’t be able to do without.

Jon McKellan, Graeme McKellan and Omar Kahn are the talented, clever and unusual trio that make up Futuro. This pop/indie rock band sounds as if they have a symbiotic relationship, synergetic and polished, accomplished and effortless; a consummate, swish sound.

Reviewing their music is the hardest review I have ever had to write. Not because it’s bad, good god no, but because it is so original, so fresh. With such a unique, exciting sound there’s no way to explain it. They describe themselves as ‘Bloc Party being held hostage by Audioslave and forced to dance’  — and I would add, while Franz Ferdinand watch and laugh — which really is as close as you get.

Their newest EP Keep It Short and Keep It Simple starts with “Exit Sign,” a foot tapping, danceable indie rock future classic. No jangly guitar sounds for Futuro, no, they prefer the spiky guitar riffs of Franz Ferdinand and Interpol.

“Next Time,” the second track on the EP, is much more indie rock with a more hard edge guitar and bass line. Jon’s vocals reflect the harder feel by being that much deeper and more raw. “Act Your Age” is a danceable pop-punk Bloc Partyesque track- high energy, fun, and absolutely addictive with hilarious and ironic lyrics that any post-punk will truly appreciate.
