TV Review: Rock Star: Supernova Week 5

Rock Star: Supernova saw a week filled with ch-ch-ch-changes. Breaking it down, the contestants lined up with this week with Storm Large converting to the top spot. Storm provided last week's encore performance and this week's setting of the stage for the need for changes making the top spot. She set sail again with evidence of performance savvy with her choice of song and delivery. Storm dressed in a simple black suit, sang David Bowie's classic tune, "Changes" and brought to the forefront the necessity of changing it up.

Patrice Pike did an amazing performance with Tommy Lee — man, it is sad how I temporarily forgot how amazing he is on drums. Pike showed she could hang; it took a pair of brass ones to go out with Tommy Lee. Sadly, she also confirmed her somewhat limited vocal range.

Lukas, last night, delivered his worst performance of the competition. It was borderline awful. During the elimination show tonight, he exhibited recognition for his need for ch-ch-ch-changes. I think all who watched him who are fans, were in shock. The elimination night, "behind the scenes" footage, had him intelligently acknowledging his mistakes and realizing his errors. He took manly responsibility for his failings; I was greatly impressed with his attitude. I was also pleased to see he is not so much of an egomaniac to not realize when he may be wrong. He's still one of my favorites to win this, but in this week's scoreboard, it is only fair that I must rank him lower.

Ryan Star gave a stellar performance on baby grande piano this week and not surprisingly received the encore nod. Now if he could just grow a few manners and refrain from being taped calling the female contestants names, it might help his cause a small bit.

Sad to say my 'dark horse' darling, Dana Andrews, says goodbye tonight. I must say I was surprised to see her go at this juncture. I attribute that to her youth and inexperience. (The blurting out about the tattoo last night did not help her.) It's a shame, and I think that Newsted felt that way too; he was out-voted. Dana had a lot to offer, but she was a long shot, and apparently did not show to T. Lee and Gilby that she could make it in the stretch.
