Obviously the big deal this week is Tom Petty's new Highway Companion. This isn't going to make you forget Damn the Torpedoes, but it's pretty good. "Saving Grace" will certainly go down as one of his classics. This the current #1 seller at Amazon, as well it should be just for that kick-ass single.

Thirty odd years after their last album, and short a couple of dead members, the New York Dolls have a new album, One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This.

For my part, I've gotten more good out of Linda Rondstadt's later period Spanish albums than her much more famous pop hits, so her new Adieu False Heart sounds somewhat promising. She's teamed with a Cajun folk singer named Ann Savoy, billing themselves as the Zozo Sisters. The record is described as combining basic Cajun fiddle and accordian with chamber string sections. Might be worth a listen. I note that this is rated the #9 seller today at Amazon.

Unreformed hawkish Hoosier hillbilly and sometimes candidate Al Barger runs the still squeezin' down the psychodelic Kentucky moonshine at MoreThings.com, what with the paranoid religious visions and the Pentacostal music and visions of God and Sarah Palin and anarchy running amok and such. Till they come to take him away somewhere where he can't hurt anyone else, you can check out his weekly column of NEW ALBUM RELEASES.

That's a great title on the Dolls album.

Saw the Dolls on TV the other night - Johansen was scary lookin' - like if Mick Jagger DIDN'T have a personal trainer & dietician. Sylvain was hidden yndershades and a baggy outfit. The others looked like winners from a Dolls look alike contest. They sounded OK though. I'd like to hear the album.

Ann Savoy did some nice work with Michael Doucet in the Savoy-Doucet Band a couple of years ago. I bet her work with Ronstadt will kick some ass.
