A&E to Premiere Gene Simmons Family Jewels

On Monday, August 7, the A&E network will launch their newest reality show, Gene Simmons Family Jewels, a real-life family series about a legendary rock star and his unconventional life. The series will launch with back-to-back episodes at 10 and 10:30 pm Eastern.

The show will follow the rock star who is known as the tongue-wagging member of Kiss and the mother of his children, Shannon Tweed, a former playmate of the year, in their day-to-day life. Though the couple has never been married, they have been together for twenty-two years and are happily raising their surprisingly normal children, Nick and Sophie, who are seventeen and fourteen.

While comparisons are bound to be drawn to MTV's The Osborns, viewers may be surprised to see the renowned ladies' man doing the average dad tasks of taking the Gatorade to Sophie's soccer games and being a front-row supporter when Nick's band has a show.

GSFV Another little-seen part of Simmons is his business side. Aside from the merchandising involved with Kiss, he runs a record label, Simmons Records; Simmons Audio-Visual; and Gene Simmons Game magazine. One might find the above images conflicting with those often showing Simmons with women who are not Tweed on his arm and the rock-n-roll lifestyle associated with numerous years on the road.

GSAccording to the Beacon Journal Tweed said at a press conference, "I am not a stupid girl, nor am I a doormat…He has never lied to me, and I don't think he cheats.'' She then went on to distinguish between emotional cheating and sexual cheating, naming the latter as a forgivable offense.

Simmons is a founding member of the band Kiss. According to their website the band is one of America’s top gold record champions. They have recorded 36 albums and sold 75 million albums worldwide in their 32-year career.

A&E promises the show will dig deep into the private family side Gene has spent many years sheltering from public view and describes the Simmons-Tweed family thusly: "Funny, loving, often at odds, this is a real life extraordinary family — but one that we can all identify with."

Gene Simmons' Family Jewles is produced for A&E Network by The Greif Company/A Day With, Inc and the Gene Simmons Company.

this looks like just enough of a train wreck to actually be interesting.

oh, why not?! i'll be in the middle of vacation. what the hey...

#2 — July 25, 2006 @ 13:30PM — Connie Phillips [URL]

I'm with you Mark, one of those things sights you don't want to stare at... but you just can't help yourself.

But isn't that the appeal of reality TV?

#3 — July 25, 2006 @ 13:36PM — Mark Saleski [URL]

yes. reality tv grips people in funny ways. i mean, i walked into the bedroom last night to discover thewife and stepson #2 watching "hell's kitchen".

what a silly show. we were wondering how long it would have taken me as a contestant to tell the chef to go screw.

pretty sure the answer was "less than one hour"

#4 — July 25, 2006 @ 13:43PM — Connie Phillips [URL]

Hell's Kitchen is an odd one, and I'd be willing to bet I wouldn't last as long as you.

I think with these celebrity based ones, the audience wants a peek at the "star life style." While A&E is promoting this to make Simmons' look like just your average guy, my gut tells me if that were completely true A&E would have no interest in doing a show about his family.

#5 — July 25, 2006 @ 21:46PM — Guppusmaximus

Considering he is a shallow bastard that sues people on the turn of a dime(King Diamond)I would have to agree with Connie that this guy just sees a business opportunity to capitalize on. It's just sad that his hot wife seems to be dis-illusioned...

#6 — July 26, 2006 @ 06:48AM — Orchid

I think this show is likely to be just about as real as the Osbournes. That is to say, not very real at all. As for his kids being "normal", I seriously doubt his kids are normal having grown up with a mother who has made a name for herself through her physical gifts alone and a father who is world famous for gimmickry, greed, and sexual conquest. Those kids may have a normal look on the outside but there's no way they're normal on the inside.

Anyone who buys into the gimmick that a mother who takes her daughter for shopping sprees in Beverly Hills (this is the "plot" of one of the episdodes)is going to raise a child with what might be considered "normal" values should be offered the Brooklyn Bridge.

The fact that Gene is behind the KISS merchandising machine which has turned out everything from coffins to condoms is an indication that he'd sell anything for a quick profit, including his family and their privacy.

#7 — July 26, 2006 @ 09:20AM — Connie Phillips [URL]

You're right about him being a merchandising magnate, Orchid. Simmons has a knack at making the utmost out of his fifteen minutes of fame.

As I said earlier A&E is not going to make a reality show about "normal" family life. I have no doubt it's going to be sensationalized.

All you people who hate on this show need to shut up! first of all why are you even on this website if you dont like the show??? The whole family seems super nice (and hilarious i might add!!...especially Nick) and besides...what is normal anyway?? who says your familys are normal?? i say they're just as normal as anyone else! and probably way more entertaining then all you boring people out there who are too full of hate!

#9 — October 8, 2006 @ 21:05PM — megan

This show rocks!! how can all you people who hate on it not find it funny??? it lets you see a side of a lengendary rocker plus the rest of his family (especially his HOTHOTHOT son Nick) i love they way the whole family teams up on their dad and just has fun with whatever they're doing!

i enjoy this show, it shows that a Rock star can be a good family man while still being in the limelight. His family is charming and they seem to enjoy each other. that is rare these days. My kids were all
kiss fans and still have their albums. Good show. I'm an old lady of 66 so if I like it, it must be good.

#11 — March 21, 2007 @ 10:14AM — Judy Kennedy [URL]

The show is great. It's interesting to watch this
fun family. Their kids do act normal and are so
funny. People should look at the positive side of this delightful family not the negative. Why shouldn't Gene take advantage of this opportunity - wouldn't you?? He gets to show off
his gorgeous, fun partner and two good looking kids not to mention the phenomenal house. I can't wait to see the next show.

My Hat is off to Gene Simmons for not being a typical sex, DRUGS and rock n roll musician. He has my vote for man of the year...

Just like every other thing Gene does - - too little too late. (Ozzy already fished these waters when his show became totally scripted and wandered off its original premise.)

This second season of the show totally bites.

What was once an actually charming show has been reduced to blatantly obvious scripted segments of Gene, with only the kids remaining unscripted.

That whole lost costume bit? Please.

Gene - you remind people why you were a terrible actor to begin with! (Anyone remember the film 'Red Surf'? Watch that and I rest my case.)

Although it was interesting to see how far the rift between Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons really is. In the same lost costume show - - Paul and Gene arrive at TRL studios in SEPARATE vans. It looked as though they didn't want to be anywhere near one another. (Guess Ace and Peter have been right all along about your bitter feud.)

The fact that Gene's now Producer and his moneybag logo appears at the end are fair indicators that this show is doomed.

Anything he puts his personal stamp on is cheap and worthless.

Thanks for the recent comments everyone! I have to admit after the first episode or two of this last season I quit watching. I, also, find it to be incredibly scripted (fake) and just a grab for more cash from Simmons who, if nothing else, knows how to promote himself.

#16 — April 9, 2007 @ 01:35AM — taurus3

This show reminds me of how much I despise this man. I cannot believe how fake the show is! It was obviously the first time ever that he went shopping for condoms for Shannon. And she is pathetic for putting up with him for so long! So what if he buys you every cosmetic to stay beautiful! If I were you, Shannon, I would have said bye-bye long ago.

Also, I agree with Orchid that those kids are definitely not as normal as they seem, especially Nick.

Because I knew the show was just a cheap ploy for Gene to make money, I could not watch any more.

I watched Gene Simmons this past weekend when he honored our military and also took his daughter Sophie to the military hospitals to visit vets.

I have never had more respect for Gene Simmons than I did watching and listening to him talk to these men and how he thinks every school should have vets come talk with the kids.
Even better, I think school kids need to take field trips to these hospitals and visit these vets themselves. Show these kids the reason why the USA is still number 1.

Thank you Gene Simmons for showing me the real person within you and may God bless you.

Sophie is absolutely beautiful

#23 — June 26, 2008 @ 17:58PM — TommyJohn

Ya.. saw the show when he gets lost in the desert...ya just him,the camera man, sound man, boom opp, food guy, driver, make up dude, director, ass wipe guy, etc. Then out of the blue two pot heads show up..just so Gene can point out his values (good values) on anti drugs...c'mon is amercia so stupid not to see the this is all scriped for "good tv"? I'll say yes.
