TV Review: Venture Bros. Season 2, Episode 3
Published July 25, 2006
It was already ridiculous to have superspy Brock Samson as babysitter to Hank and Dean Venture, but this is a potential disaster! When Brock is called off on a secret mission for the military, he asks his on and off enemy/flame Molotov Cocktease (heh heh, they said tease) to guard the boys in his stead. You would think a woman would stereotypically be able to handle children with ease, but Molotov finds the whole concept of babysitting teenagers and a grown man silly. She decides, instead, to teach the boys (and the wimpy Dr. Venture) to protect themselves in this episode, fittingly called "Assassinanny 911."
Of course, you can expect the Venture brothers to be their usual wimpy selves, concocting stupid phrases they believe to be "manly," all while running scared. With a woman in the Venture compound, Hank ups his macho and tries to "become a man" by putting the
moves on Molotov. Slimy Dr. Venture tries as well, but he has even less of a chance than his young, silly son. The stark differences between the always-serious Molotov and the asses that are the Ventures are what make this episode click.
Is this episode worth your time? That's like asking if the sun shines every day. Not only are Molotov and the Ventures funny, but Brock Samson's backstory is icing on a funny cake. His former instructor, Colonel Gathers, is paranoid and strange. Expect a few James Bond references when Brock is on his mission and also expect the unexpected when Brock finally finds the rogue agent he is sent to eliminate. If you miss this episode, you're missing out on the usual high-level amusement we've come to expect from the Venture Bros.
