Sony's New Patent and The Daily Music and Tech News

Sony Corp’s newly patented technology is designed to prevent its consoles from playing rented, used, or borrowed video games. Speculation over whether or not Sony would incorporate the new technology into its upcoming PlayStation 3 has caused uproar amongst gamers and consumer advocates. There is no word yet on what Sony is planning on doing with the technology.
Jimmy Eat World To Team Up With Butch Vig
Jimmy Eat World, who will soon be heading into the studio to start work on their new LP, will be teaming up with producer Butch Vig. Vig made his name in the ‘90's by producing such albums as Siamese Dream by the Smashing Pumpkins and Nevermind by Nirvana. They are scheduled to begin the recording in August. There is no release date yet set for the album.
Matador is set to reissue Pavement’s third studio album 1995's Wowee Zowee. Although the details have yet to be confirmed, the reissue is going to include a number of unreleased tracks and rarities and a never-before-heard concert from the WZ tour.
Anthology Records To Sell Digital Versions Of Out-Of-Print Tunes
Kemado Records’ Keith Abrahamsson will launch Anthology Records this Fall offering fans of obscure, experimental and out-of-print music a chance to purchase hard to find music online. He has secured digital rights to sell the music for three years and plans on using TuneCore to distribute it to iTunes and eMusic if the acts request he do so. Among the music he’ll have to offer are Suicide Commando’s Make a Record and Swedish band Parson Sound’s self-titled two-CD set.
