Revver Shares With Video Creators

If you enjoy uploading your videos onto the web, there is a new service you should check out. Revver.com is an upload and distribution service that connects users, advertisers, and creators. Running in beta, now, Revver is set to have a full launch this month. Revver is a California based company that aims to allow creators full control of their videos while making some money from their creation. Similar to YouTube but more focused on independent or amateur video, Revver is unique in offering creators a chance to profit and control their videos.

Revver uses advertiser support attached to each video uploaded. But the ads aren’t intrusive to the content; they’re just tagged on to the end. The ads are very brief and allow the video to be tracked wherever it ends up. Whether it is emailed, uploaded to a P2P network, or a website; no matter where it ends up, Revver knows how many times the video has been viewed and the creator gets a cut of the advertising money. The ad revenue is split 50/50 between the creator and Revver.

In an effort to ensure control to the creator, Revver allows the owner of the video to control what types of ads can be attached to the video. By using keywords on the account page, the creator determines which types of advertisers are allowed to put an ad tag on their video. Revver allows any video up to 100MB in size that isn’t obscene and can be legally uploaded without any copyright issues.

This sounds like a really cool idea. So next time you think of uploading your best friend’s dorky dancing, consider using a company that pays you for it. With YouTube and MySpace making millions off somebody’s birthday video, it’s nice to see a company share with the creators.
