Hard Time For Rush Limbaugh? No Charges Over Viagra

Written by Phillip Winn
Published July 05, 2006

Palm Beach prosecutors announced today that they will not press charges against Rush Limbaugh, who was detained for more than three hours on June 26, 2006, when U.S. Customs officials found a bottle of Viagra pills with someone else's name on it. There are strict laws related to the import of drugs without proper labelling, and a charge against Limbaugh would have nullified a deal he made with prosecutors in June in a separate case alleging "doctor-shopping."

The name on the bottle was "Dr. Steve Strumwasser," Limbaugh's psychiatrist. A filing by the prosecutor's office says that Dr. Strumwasser agreed to have his name on the bottle to "avoid potentially embarrassing publicity" for Limbaugh. That effort has now clearly failed, as many, many people now know that 55-year-old Limbaugh took pills intended to treat erectile dysfunction with him on a short trip to the Dominican Republic.

Under most circumstances, using another person's name for a prescription is legal so long as all parties are aware of it and documentation standards are met, but the details have been forwarded to Miami-Dade country — where the prescription was written — for prosecutors there to confirm the details, as well as to state licensing authorities, to ensure that the doctor acted appropriately.

The existing deal involves authorities accusing Limbaugh of getting overlapping pain-killer prescriptions by convincing multiple doctors that each was the only doctor treating him. Mr. Limbaugh denied the specific charges while admitting that he was addicted to the pain-killer OxyContin. He worked out a deal last month in which a "doctor shopping" charge against him would be dropped so long as he avoided arrested during the next 18 months, among other terms. His detainment on June 26 did not result in an arrest, so the deal is still intact.

Limbaugh was returning from the Dominican Republic on a private plane when U.S. Customs officials found the bottle of pills. Standards for how to transport medications are vague, so international travelers are often advised to clearly document and label all medications when traveling. Domestic travelers should have no problems, but there have been accusations against Transportation Security Agency employees involving drugs, so clear documentation is often good advice even for domestic flights.

OK, so now we know what drugs Limbaugh had to take for sex, what I want to know is what kind of drugs did the OTHER party have to take?

#2 — July 6, 2006 @ 12:30PM — Phillip Winn [URL]

Innit he married?

#3 — July 6, 2006 @ 14:21PM — chancelucky [URL]

Rush is three times divorced I think. Also, does not appear to have a girlfriend. He was on his jet with three other people, so did not appear to be a romantic weekend in the Dominican Republic with a current girlfriend or boyfriend.
Not that there's anything wrong with any of this.

"He worked out a deal last month in which a "doctor shopping" charge against him would be dropped so long as he avoided arrested during the next 18 months, among other terms."

And wasn't it one of those "liberal" lawyers Limbaugh supposedly despises who helped him beat the rap? What a hypocrite.

Nowadays the media wants to portray anyone who`s found using sex pills or taking an erotic vacation as a perv, but we all know we`ve taken that road before. Rush Limbaugh is a man like any other, and it`s hard to read about this story from so many angles and different views, without noticing the distortions in the story. He was not with children in the DR, he was just a guest at some men`s club ( some say www.charlisangels.com could be a target )where adult women work as companions. The DR has many nice resorts, and bad ones too. But to say that Rush was with children, that`s too much. See the webpage ( charlisangels ) and tell us if you see a minor in the escorts gallery. NONE FOUND. So why all the bells and whistles?

^ Horseshit. Lardbaugh is a hypocrite and a perv, in addition to being a draft dodger.

#7 — October 8, 2007 @ 01:56AM — Ruvy in Jerusalem

REMF,

Don't hold back. Tell us what you really feel about Rush Limbaugh!

Man!! All this bullshit over used scumbag using some pills to get it up....

#8 — October 8, 2007 @ 10:56AM — REMF

Ruvy;

The main reason I think Limbaugh is such a piece of shit, is because here's a guy who's made a fortune pretending to be a patriot (received a medical deferment from the draft for a pimple on his ass), while many of the real heroes of Vietnam are living in cardboard boxes, they're so screwed up from their ordeal over there.

Give it a rest: "Limbaugh's birth date was selected 152nd in the 1970 draft lottery, and since the highest lottery number ultimately called for this group was 125, he wouldn't have been drafted in 1971 no matter what his classification." [Snopes]

I don't like Limbaugh, but using a spam comment on a year-old article as a trigger to trot out a logical fallacy that doesn't even apply in this case is silly.

#10 — October 9, 2007 @ 01:51AM — REMF

Might want to get your facts straight, Winn. I was there for the 1970 lottery, and they went all the way up to #190 for that group. I knew several guys with higher numbers than 152 who got drafted.

Lardbaugh has publicly told at least two lies regarding his draft-dodging, including 1) that he received his medical deferment "before the lottery was called" and 2) that his deferment was for "a football knee."

Paul Colford disproved both of those lies in his book "The Rush Limbaugh Story." The truth is, Lardbaugh received his deferment AFTER the lottery, awarded to him by his family physician (who was an old buudy of Rush's dad) on his own initiative.

And his deferment was for a pilonidal cyst. Lardbaugh's H.S. coach and a teammate both told Colford the "football knee" story was spurious.

So Phil, I'm curious, any opinion on Lardbaugh's repetitious attack of Bill Clinton, when he continuosly stated, "Never trust a draft dodger!"

#11 — October 9, 2007 @ 02:08AM — Phillip Winn [URL]

I repeat: Give it a rest.

A one-trick pony is bad enough, but the trick sucks.

I don't understand why there is such contentious debate about Limbaugh's story. Is it not a matter of public record? I would have thought it an easy matter to research if anyone actually cared enough...

#13 — October 9, 2007 @ 10:04AM — Phillip Winn [URL]

Yeah, it's been researched. I included a link above. The reality interferes with MCH's favorite trope, though, so it's overlooked in favor of silliness.

All from a spam comment. Sheesh!

#14 — October 9, 2007 @ 12:49PM — REMF

Chris,

Lardbaugh's draft dodging was thoroughly researched by Paul Colford in "The Rush Limbaugh Story," who dedicates an entire chapter in his book to it, titled "Beating the Draft."

I'll ask you (since Winn ignored the question); Lardbaugh claims he "didn't do anything to evade or avoid" the draft...so why did he lie about a phony "football knee," and about the time-frame of being awarded his medical deferment?

And I stand by the reality of the 1970 draft, since I was there and witnessed at least two guys with numbers higher than 152 get drafted, one of whom was in the high 180s.

#15 — October 9, 2007 @ 12:57PM — Phillip Winn [URL]

Wrong.

Give. It. A. Rest. I'm starting to feel sorry for you, so please stop now.

#16 — October 9, 2007 @ 13:24PM — Christopher Rose [URL]

MCH, I've never heard a single word uttered by Limbaugh or, indeed, even heard of him outside of this site, but you're still more boring than him. Who fucking cares?

#17 — October 9, 2007 @ 16:11PM — Dr Dreadful [URL]

Chris, since that sort of talk radio doesn't really exist on our side of the pond, I suppose the closest equivalent to Limbaugh would be either the editorial page of The Sun or the Young Conservatives' conference.

#18 — October 9, 2007 @ 16:39PM — Phillip Winn [URL]

Indeed, Christopher. Limbaugh is a pompous simpleton, but infinitely more entertaining than the tripe that has come up in this comment thread. I haven't listened to or read Limbaugh in years, and I don't intend to read MCH any more, either.

#19 — October 10, 2007 @ 03:42AM — Christopher Rose [URL]

Doc, so he poses as a moron and patronises people or he's a pompous twit that knows nothing?

#20 — October 10, 2007 @ 12:21PM — Dr Dreadful [URL]

Bingo.

#21 — October 10, 2007 @ 16:54PM — Dan

Christopher, for another opinion from someone who actually listens to Limbaugh's show regularly, I can tell you that Rush is hyper-intelligent, witty, and nearly always right.

On his show, he does the job that the corrupt partisan media refuses to do, which is to expose liberal Democrats hypocrisy, and the media's complicity.

He exposes them with their own words. And it works.

That's why they're always angry with him, and attempting to silence him through dishonest smears, like the latest "phony soldiers" mis-information.

#22 — October 11, 2007 @ 04:34AM — Christopher Rose [URL]

Dan, if you think all the media in the USA is in service to what is laughingly called the Left of US politics, I can only assume you are one of the people he appears to patronise.

All politicians are hypocritical, it's forced upon them by the very nature of the current political system.

#23 — October 11, 2007 @ 18:19PM — Dan

I do think that Christopher. Limbaugh demonstrates the bias nearly every day.

Of course I wouldn't need him to point out the blatantly obvious.

For whatever reason, many people aren't comfortable with truth.

Notice REMF's non-reaction to the exposure of Rush's draft-dodging hoax.

#24 — October 12, 2007 @ 05:34AM — Christopher Rose [URL]

But Limbaugh has a weekly audience of what, 12 million? That IS mainstream media, so his very popularity disproves your belief. Then look at Fox News, which has bigger audiences than CNN.

Hardly a "corrupt partisan media", at least not in the sense you meant it...

#25 — October 12, 2007 @ 20:13PM — Dan

One principled cable news network, and a beleaguered conservative radio talk host in a sea of corrupt news dissemenation services hardly constitutes my belief as being disproven.

But truth is gaining ground. At least among those who are willing to see it.

I guess you could make the argument that the "Big Joe Polka Show" on RFD cable means Polka music is "mainstream".
