Court TV Plans New Broadband Channel
Published July 04, 2006
Yesterday, we posted Judge YouTubes For Justice, about an Ohio judge that features his courtroom on Youtube. If this isn’t enough courtroom coverage for you then you can check out Court TV Extra and coming soon Court TV’s new broadband channel. Court TV is a New York based cable channel that has been offering courtroom coverage, trial analysis and legally themed reality shows for years. And just like the major networks and cable providers, Court TV moved into online video coverage too.
Court TV for awhile now has had an interactive site that carries courtroom coverage. Court TV Extra is a subscription service that for $5.95 per month gives access to video streams of the same trials on Court TV, additional exclusive trial content, news clips and police video. The site allows you to keep track of multiple trials at the same time. Currently, Court TV Extra is offering a 30-day free trial for their service.
New York Business reported about Court TV’s recent plans for a broadband channel and Time Warner’s new role in owning Court TV. The new broadband channel will offer video clips of its reality shows Beach Patrol, Hot Pursuit and Texas SWAT. The article reported that Court TV is making plans to create a broadband channel that focuses on the legal trouble of celebrities similar to TheSmokingGun.com.
I doubt if people will tire of reality programming or courtroom coverage anytime soon. I just wonder if it ever affects how people are treated in court or by the public. For example, Court TV has about 80 million viewers.
