Part of The Ramble

There’s more to this Ramble than I could fit in the headline. Pay attention as their could be a test on this material at a later date.

Oregon State Wins The College World Series. The hardest working Beavers in the country became the second-northern most college to ever win the NCAA College World Series. How’s that for a distinction? The best-of-three CWS offered up some fantastic baseball, as the University of North Carolina and OSU battled throughout, but some "untimely" hitting and fielding did in the Tar Heels.

In the final game UNC had runners on first and second with nobody out in the top of the second, and couldn’t push the go-ahead run across the plate. In the CWS teams that were in this same situation – men on first and second with no outs – scored 75% of the time. Then in the top of the ninth, the UNC second baseman made a bad throw on a routine grounder that should have ended the inning, and allowed the Beavers to score what proved to be the winning run. Remember boys and girls, don’t give your opponents second chances.

World Cup Soccer. I would like to address a rumor that’s been floating around out there. Serbia Montenegro is NOT related to pop music composer Hugo Montenegro, the man who wrote the theme song for I Dream Of Jeannie and other television shows. There, now I feel much better.

The Embarrassing New York Knicks. Just when you thought this situation couldn’t turn into more of a cluster-fuck, head cluster-fucker James Dolan out cluster-fucks himself. After making a fine mess out of everything that he’s done with the formerly proud occupants of Madison Square Garden, most recently firing Larry Brown and saying Brown violated his contract, Dolan comes out and says he’s giving Isiah Thomas only one year to fix the Knicks or else he to will be fired.

The only possible option Thomas has is to get someone else to buy the team and then fire himself.

Jose Canseco. On June 27th, Jose told ESPN radio’s Colin Cowherd that he feels that the performance-enhancing drug conspiracy in Major League Baseball goes all the way to the top and that Bud Selig and his henchmen are fully aware of everything that has gone on under their collective noses. Jose went on to say that team personnel and player agents were involved with providing these drugs to players, and that he wouldn’t be surprised in we find out that a team’s general manager has been using these drugs. He also said what we’ve seen come out over the past few months is still just the tip of the iceberg and we’ll find out more about athletes in other sports as this story develops. I believed him then and I believe him now.

I think you wasted your yearly allotment for usage of the term "cluster-fuck" but it was worth it. DJRadiohead, however, is already borrowing from his 2009 allotment.

I can name another bubble team this past year: Toledo. Won 9 of their last 11 to finish 20-11.

i am all "CF'ed" out...and your pick of toledo speaks to the regional nature of such gripes and reaffirms why the tournament doesn't have to be expanded...although toledo's win over IPFW was quite impressive...

In all honesty I never expected Toledo to be a tournament team. The 20-11 record included several bad losses in a weak schedule even though they were 6 points away from a conference tournament victory.

In short the tournament needs not to expand. 65 teams out of about 320 still puts 20 percent of the crowd into the final round of the season.

Well, I'll comment. Being here in Seattle, whenever a team from near Portland OR does well, that is good. Go Beavers! It is still a bit tough to mention their mascot without a bit of a chuckle.
NBA draft? Brandon Roy and Adam Morrison ROCK. OK, notice my location as mentioned above. Who the hell did the Sonics pick! Some unknown from Senegal who is 12 stories tall and can block shot. It will take a while to make him a seasoned player. Gee Whiz Sonics. What are you guys doing? The town is pissed at you guys for demanding tax dollars to update the arena....Go build a new one with private money.

World Cup gets started again in the morning. The Germans might do well....

OK, this is the only World Cup article available at the moment.

The Brits have to go home....Portugal and Brazil in the Final? We'll see. New world powers in the game are showing their stuff...

"Portugal and Brazil in the Final?"

can't happen. check the brackets. they might meet in the semis if Brazil comes through.

El, oooppppssss, yer right. But Brasil had to go home with a loss to France as it is....I was just hoping for some national/historical battle...
