Magic Junk Radio 6: A New Set of Rules
Published June 15, 2006
Of course, four months ago, the belief was to confine myself to a dark room with the goal of finding magic creative mushrooms growing in the enchanted meadows of my mind. But with such a premise, one is almost doomed to run into something else by accident, which is why I'm here now.
Rather than spill what magical thing I ran into (and no, it wasn't Eva Longoria mud wrestling with Salma Hayek), I'll leave that in the hands of my sonically produced calling card, Magic Junk Radio 6: A New Set of Rules.
If you've haven't tuned in before, MJR can best be described as an eclectic maelstrom of sounds, voices, and samples. #6 finds me back to my old tricks, but hopefully I've learned a little more since we last met. It clocks in at an all-time high 31:36 –with the funk riffs, hard rock beats, and pop culture samples you're used to. Even some old favorites get revisited through the MJR filters, including a couple guilty pleasures.
And there you go. Be sure to leave me some feedback if you have an opinion. Thanks. Take it easy.

52 seconds in and I remember why I am not supposed to attempt remixes on my own.
Damn. I'm depressed.
Don't fret too much, DJR... that Kotter remix took me a few hours to cut up last week. It's all a matter of trial and error. That and having your wife proof your work! :o)
I'm glad to hear you came to your senses with the "Love Boat/New Job" theme. The spoken word version is much better, but it was hilariously funny hearing your inner lounge singer come out. I think you should include the "M.Sahm original" as part of a bloopers and out takes track.
Overall a great listen.
The above was not a paid endorsement ;)
Hall & Oates was da guilty pleasure maybe? i enjoyed it.
S-Rod: The lounge singer version will never be heard again. I am visiting Recall tonight to have my memory erased of it.
Saleski: Of course. I had already started ICGFT before I knew you were an Adult Education fan. Maybe next time if I have source material on tap. I surprised you didn't comment on the Dylan butchering though.
i was letting the art flow over me and sort of didn't notice at first...
And to think, I included that special just for you and Josh. It came out leagues better than the one I did of 'Rainy Day Women'. Oh well. No more listener appreciation from me. Heh heh.
I thought it was Rekall, Rekall, Rekall!
Erase his memory, refund his money, and throw him in a JohnnyCab. And if anybody asks, we never even heard of the singing of the Love Boat theme.

I am so going to download this right now. Glad to see you've returned, Mark!
