Democrats Line Up To Sign The "Coulter Letter"

Making excellent use of their tax-deductible time, Democratic Party officials from Long Island and New York City are lining up to sign a letter condemning Ann Coulter's new book, Godless: the Church of Liberalism. The letter appears to have two purposes: first, it demands an apology from Coulter; and second, it gives Democrats yet another opportunity to waste taxpayer money.

The lawmakers signed a letter drafted by Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington) demanding that the conservative commentator apologize for saying in her new book that widows of some 9/11 victims are "enjoying" their husbands' deaths. The book refers to the four New Jersey women as "the witches of East Brunswick."

As of Friday afternoon, Israel had collected the signatures of 19 House colleagues. "It's lawmakers who have seen firsthand what [the 9/11 widows] went through and are outraged by what Ann Coulter wrote about them," Israel said.

An excerpt from Representative Israel's letter reveals his deep anguish over the issue commitment to political posturing:

"We understand that you are in the book business and that controversy might make for good sales," Israel wrote to Coulter, "but we would urge you to consider that making mean-spirited comments about women trying to do the right thing might not be worth the resultant rise on the bestseller list."
According to Representative Israel, no Republican has yet signed the letter, proving his underlying theory that Republicans are hatemongers.  Of course, it's possible that Republicans are too busy running the country while Democrats busily assemble ridiculous letters. Coulter, by the way, is working on a letter of her own, thanking the Democratic Party for the publicity.

interesting...the sub-heading blurb states...
*When weighed against the pressing Ann Coulter issue, the business of running the country takes a backseat for Democratic officials.*

so..my Question is, how does the original Poster feel about the GOP leadership in the Senate spending all that time last week on the anti-gay marriage amendment that was doomed to fail before it began?

or the next few time wasters they have in the pipe?

just curious

Bingo, Gonzo!

#3 — June 11, 2006 @ 09:35AM — Arch Conservative

Even though I'ma republican you're not going to get an argument from me Gonzo. There are much more important things for congress to be doing. The gop knew they had no chance of getting it passed but they did it any way because it was a ploy to play to thier base and a mighty transparent one at that.

A large part of their base, being social conservatives was not fooled. "you're going to try and pass an constitutional amendment for us that you know will never pass? Yeah thanks for nothing assholes!

But to be fair both sides do it. Like when Dems actually got to vote on the Murtha vote to pull the troops out and when push came to shove they actually didn't see the need to pull the troops out.

What?! A Political party playing politics. I am SHOCKED! They certainly teach you a lot while your in school.

Can't wait to read your piece on the Republicans upcoming waste of time regarding flag-burning, which is on their agenda.

Also need to update your bio. The line, "His political views cannot be explained with a conservative or liberal label, as he often floats between the two." is woefully inaccurate based on the writings and comments you have posted.

Great article!!!

This just goes to show us what party is the party that is ready to run this country. We got one party wasting tax payer dollors to condemn some celeb while the other party is busy running this country.

I agree 100% with Coulter's comments.

Coulter ought to pay these bozos for the free publicity.

RogerMDillon,

"Also need to update your bio."

Don't be so quick to judge, my friend. By doing so, you're sure to miss out on life's many surprises.

For people who are arguing that the gay marriage debate is a GOP issue, you're obviously forgetting the Defense of Marriage Act that Clinton signed and the majority of Americans support. By the way, the Senate passed the bill on an 85-14 vote. I'm guessing that among the 85 yea's, several were issued by Democrats. Selective memory, anyone?

big difference between a Law that has yet to pass the test of SCOTUS and a dog and pony show that was known to fail before it ever started about a constitutional Amendment while we have two wars and a lot of other important shit going on...

talk about selective memory

Well, it certainly would have been a surprise if you had written a balanced article that called out both parties for engaging in the exact same practice the exact same week.

Selective memory, anyone?

After flushing away $250 Billion ($2 Trillion before it's all over) in Iraq on a misguided, ever changing, never ending red herring chase, to complain about wasting tax payers dollars on a letter just shows that most Conservative talking points are just parroted phrases that refuse to die.

But most aren't as garbled or drug induced as the gibberish Coulter spews while tanked up in front of her computer.

It's like a train wreck on paper.

Tony, how do you rationalize "We got one party wasting tax payer dollors to condemn some celeb while the other party is busy running this country."

You don't see that the party you claim is "busy running this country" is wasing tax payer dollars to write bigotry into the Constitution, where it's not needed or wanted? I for one wish they'd spend more time figuring out how to cut some freaking spending, rather than shouting "Look! Gay athiests!" to get their "base" riled up.
