TV Classics Online for Free
Published May 25, 2006
I've posted before about free content on the web. I think most people like it when they can get something for free. A small New York production company has started offering some classic TV shows, movies, and cartoons along with some original programming.
ShopStudios.tv has created several streaming channels with plans for more. Presently, they have: Drama.tv which plays some old movies and episodes of the television western Bonanza; Toon.tv which has some old Popeye and Mel-O-Toon episodes; and an original channel AllGoodNews.tv. The feeds are okay. All the channels require Windows Media Player to work. Mainly it provides streams with no commercials, fees, or subscriptions.
"We are in the midst of a content boom that is opening up an entire new world of free access to film and TV content on the Internet," said Jacques Rosas, CEO of Shop Studios Network. "This is an intensely creative time where the capacity to put together media content from huge film and TV libraries is now a reality for small entrepreneurial companies. We think of ourselves as a web lab that is upending the old definition of a network, while also allowing us to experiment with new types of original programming."
They're also creating several channels that will feature shopping. The makers are hoping to create a virtual mall. The next channel that will be up soon is FoodReview.tv — this channel will offer reviews of restaurants and recipes.
Check it out and see an old movie for free. Remember, you get what you pay for.
