TGIF: Thank God It's a Finger!

From Netscape News:

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - A diner found a piece of human flesh on his hamburger shortly after a restaurant worker accidentally cut his finger, and a spokeswoman said the company was "very, very sorry.''

A kitchen manager at the TGI Friday's at College Mall injured himself Tuesday and no one immediately realized he had lost part of his finger while others rushed to help him, said Amy Freshwater, a spokeswoman for the chain.

Another staff member served the plate to a customer, who immediately spotted the piece of flesh.

The diner called police, but an officer told him that it was not a criminal matter, Detective Sgt. David Drake said.

Hmm. So, you've got a strong potential for blood-borne pathogens in someone's meal, but the management there didn't order their food servers to temporarily halt bringing diners their orders? Is there no company policy at TGIF on what to do if an employee is seriously cut and the possibility exists that food might be contaminated with bloody chunks of human flesh? If there is no company-wide policy, why the hell not? And if there is a policy, why wasn't it followed?

We live in an era of HIV and AIDS. There is simply no margin for error when it comes to fresh human blood winding up on some unsuspecting person's dinner plate.

I wonder how much money the big whigs at TGIF are willing to offer this patron in exchange for no embarrassing and costly litigation. Five thousand? Ten thousand? Fifty thousand — and lifetime free "Electric Lemonades?"

If this guy doesn't settle as soon as possible, that could lead to some very bad public relations for TGIF. So, I'm guessing they are willing to offer him quite a bit. Six figures would not surprise me, at least if this guy knows the value of the cards he holds.
