Living With War: Neil Young's New "Folk Metal Protest" Record
Published April 15, 2006
You've got to hand it to Neil Young. The man definitely defies convention. For some four decades now, he has made a career of doing the unexpected. Where many other artists - especially those of Young's generation who have endured the way he has - often have chosen the path of least commercial resistance, he has consistently followed his artistic instincts.
Never one to simply settle for "whatever works," Neil Young more often opts for what feels right in an artistic sense. As a result, his career has been one of alternating commercial peaks and valleys.
Neil Young's artistic muse has led him to create a body of work over the years that stands out as much for its often bizarre turns of style as it does for the great songs he is best known for — from "Heart of Gold" to "Rockin' In The Free World".
In the seventies, this meant following up his "commercial breakthrough" album Harvest, with the darkness and desolation that permeates such personal work as On The Beach, and the only much later to be appreciated Tonight's the Night.
In the eighties, it meant releasing a series of albums so stylistically schizophrenic — from syntho pop to rockabilly — that his label at the time, Geffen Records, first begged the artist to make a "Neil Young" album. Then they finally sued him for breach of contract, citing failure to deliver a commercial release. Neil countersued and eventually returned to his original label, Reprise Records.
Now it appears Neil Young is preparing once again to throw one of his trademark artistic curveballs. Where, on Harvest Moon, Neil Young sang "No one wins, it's a "War of Man," on the upcoming Living With War, he directs his anger at the "Man of War."
Less than a year after the release of the quiet, reflective songs of his most recent album Prairie Wind - an album released in the wake of both his father's passing and his own brush with death after a brain aneurysm - Neil Young is about to release a heavy metal protest record.
Say what?
The news, first reported early Friday morning on numerous Internet blogs (most notably by our good friends over at Thrasher's Wheat), and since confirmed by Neil Young's Official Site, is that Neil's new album, is being described this way:
A power trio with trumpet and 100 voices...A metal version of Phil Ochs and Bob Dylan...folk metal protest.
This comes from the artist himself.

A few days ago we learned that he would be on tour with CSNY, and playing my home town - his home town - for the first time in a decade.
Yeah, for a guy who nearly bought the farm last year, Neil shows absolutely no signs of slowing down.
Two records in less than a year; a concert film soon to be out on DVD; the CSNY tour (and hopefully a solo tour with the new "power trio" or maybe Crazy Horse?)...and there's still hope he may get around to work on the long promised "Archives".
As for your comment Barry...I could never quite figure out Young's support of Reagan in the eighties either (this from the guy who sang about "Tin Soldiers and Nixon's coming in "Ohio").
So yeah, as Springsteen would say, it's been a "Long Time Comin"....
Still I've got a feeling that "Impeach The President" is going to stir a shitstorm (Drudge already has the story up on his site).
Move over Dixie Chicks...and meet the new sheriff. Same as the old sheriff.
Call me cynical but this is a bit like GFR doing "People Let's Stop The War" in '72. Why didn't NY consider this sorta album BEFORE the election?
Neil is the man.
"A southern man don't need him around anyhow?"
But didn't Neil Young and Ronnie Van Zant finally bury the hatchet ovewr that one?
Check out this link:
Barry,
Comparing Neil Young to Grand Funk Railroad? I mean...you're kidding right?
Scott, Neil is indeed the man. Yes he is.
However little NY sings to me personally (and I'm old enough to remember buying both Harvest and On The Beach the week of their respective releases; the latter canceled out the gains of the former), I respect his transformation from sensitive stoner crooner to recalcitrant feedback dude. He's got a BIG catalog, no question (with as many duds as classics).
That said, I DO compare the political opportunism contained within his latest PR campaign to that of GFR's with E Pluribus Funk. Where was Young when it had BALLS to oppose Bush? And, indirectly, I would say as much of Springsteen's new-found appreciation for Pete Seeger (who, like Phil Ochs, remains the gold standard in gutsy anti-establishment folk slingin').
Nevertheless, Young has heart and brains (most of the time) whereas Mark Farner has neither anytime.
Barry,
Here's the thing with Neil.
Anyone who knows his music well (and I think you and I are probably about the same age...I bought those albums the week they we're released too)...anyway...anyone who knows the man and his music well knows that he can be a little goofy. How else do you explain things like Trans and The Shocking Pinks?
And his catalog, large as it is, does contain it's fair share of clunkers as well as the classics. Incidentally, I'm a little surprised you dismissed "On The Beach" (I think you said something like it cancelled out the gains of Harvest). On The Beach, especially side 2, is for my money one of Young's best. I simply can't think of a more beautifully desolate set of songs than the three found on Side 2 of that album.
Anyway...to get back on point here...I do not think the timing of Neil doing an anti-Bush record right now is calculated at all. I just think that for Neil himself, this was the right time.
Why I don't find it calculated is because I don't think it is a move designed to sell records. If Neil wanted to do that, all he'd have to do is make another record like Harvest. And don't think for a minute he couldn't do it if he wanted to.
I think this just happens to be where Neil's "muse" leads him at the moment.
Neil Young has nothing to apologize for. He just does what he does and that's how it has always been. Brief support for Reagan in the eighties notwithstanding (which has been exagerated over the years anyway in my own opinion)...this is still the same guy who wrote songs like "Ohio" and "Southern Man".
Comparing Neil to Grand Funk Railroad?
GFR's every move during the period you referenced was calculated for maximum commercial impact by their then svengali like manager Terry Knight. If you look up the word "calculated" in a musical dictionary you might well find Knight's picture there.
In one of the only smart moves they ever made...and like you correctly noted, Mark Farner was never the sharpest knife in the drawer...Knight was dumped by Grand Funk I believe right after the record (E Pluribus Funk) you mentioned.
You also mentioned Springsteen, who I think has been very consistent in his political statements.
Up until he did the Vote For Change tour for Kerry in 2004, Springsteen chose not to speak out politically at all...but rather to let his songs do the talking for him.
Because of this, a few of his own songs, most notably Born In The USA, have been misunderstood and misappropriated by certain politicians.
So to summarize, this new record does not smell like a move calculated to do anything but say what Neil apparently feels he needs to say right now.
Because that's how it always been with Neil Young.
I can't wait to hear Neil railing aginst Bush with ol' Black cranked up to eleven.
I can't wait.
Sometimes I think Neil even took himself too politically serious. You know, bottom line; he was always more about The Music than The Politics.
Still, man, a big fan. Always.
Exactly Jewels. Neil Young usually is much more about the music than he is about the politics.
Which I think is why he has been somewhat quiet politically speaking during the Bush years...
The song "Let's roll" notwithstanding...and unlike some who share my basically liberal political views, I had no problem with Neil doing a song about those very brave folks unlucky enough to be on that plane that particular day.
I don't think Neil has ever really been that political of an artist. At least not on a consistent basis he hasn't been.
But he does occasionally write political songs. And apparently this is one of those times where he feels he has something to say.
But for the most part, yeah...he's much more about the music.
Thanks for the comment.
Jewels,
I went to check out your blog...like I do with everybody who leaves comments on my articles here.
And man...
You need to get those "ActiveX" things off your blog.
That was a SERIOUS Spyware moment.
Get those removed my friend.
For your sake, get them removed.
Just some friendly advice.
Glen
I've heard plenty of folk metal albums, and it's quite a bit different from heavy metal, it sounds like what you'd imagine celtic people would play 150 years ago if they had electric guitars, or something like that, difficult to explain, having said that, I've heard little to none of Neil Young's music at all, so I'm keen to see what the hell this ends up sounding like.
'I don't think it is a move designed to sell records. If Neil wanted to do that, all he'd have to do is make another record like Harvest.'
He does exactly that from time to time. Then he's got to do his 'grungy' and 'unexpected' record to retain Dylan status.
'If you look up the word "calculated" in a musical dictionary you might well find Knight's picture there.'
Imagine someone giving ME the rap on Knight.
Sorry, but Neil Young and Metal in the same sentence doesn't sound accurate. Though I have to say,his last album was brilliantly egineered...I mean what a great sounding CD,even though I didn't get into the music much.
The question is: will the music be any good. There have been multiple artists who have taken on President Bush and the war in song. The songs have been fairly awful and have not gotten a lot of traction. Lots of people in the entertainment community have protested. What is lacking is quality protest material.
Some of the vintage 60's protest songs are still heard today on classic radio stations because they were good songs that happened to be about sensitive politcal issues. Plenty more have been forgotten because they were shit songs regardless of the message.
NY hasn't been able to give away a record in a dozen years. This seems to me an awful lot like Steve Earle's song a few years back. When the record is released it will raise some eyebrows and then the story will die. He'll have some publicity. If the songs are good, the publicity could launch this record and it might sell a few copies and gain some traction. If it sucks, it will sell about as many as Greendale or whatever that piece of crap (sorry, I am just not a Young fan) concept album he just did was. Protests are fine. But you gotta have some fuckin' songs.
I suspect you wouldn't recognize a good Neil Young song if you heard it.
Play one for me and we'll see. I can recognize a good song regardless of who made it.
This won't be Young's first protest record. Maybe it will be a good one.
Well, let's just say, based on your previous comments, you're not the first person I'd turn to for an assessment.
I'd be more likely to turn to someone who didn't drink the NY Kool-Aid than someone who did.
If by "drink the NY Kool-Aid" you are referring to people who think Greendale is a masterpiece, then I'll have no choice but to crank it up to 11 as I bask in the warmth of your contempt.
Get over yourself, brother. That's a bit of overstatement you have there. Neither you, Neil Young, nor Greendale merit my contempt. Simmer down.
A protest song is a song that's so specific that you cannot mistake it for bullshit - Phil Ochs
I believe "Even Richard Nixon has class" is another Neil Young line.
Now, on a related topic, don't go dissin' Grand Funk, particularly E Pluribus Funk, which to me is much much better than Closer to Home, which is considered to be their best album by most fans & critics. EPF, like all their work, contains weak & hackneyed political statements, and yes indeed was orchestrated by their manager for maximum commercial appeal. So, isn't that somewhat similar to the MC5's management by John Sinclair? Although Sinclair wasn't necessarily trying to make a buck, he was looking to push his band into prominence in the alternative community. An GFR appealed to 10 - 12 year old kids who didn't get big political statements or undertand the depth of the problem - I was one of them, and if nothing else, I knew from GFR that there was a war and it wasn't a good thing.
I'd like to think that due to the efforts of Grand Funk (and that other great lost and unacknowledged political band, Steppenwolf) that when people lke myself were old enough to get the point, we found that we were already on the right side.
Furthermore, when I finally got around to hearing Neil Young make ambiguous personal/political statements, I was able to see both sides & accept the ambiguity.
So, "Footstompin' Music" or "People Let's Stop the War": find a copy & play it real loud 'til the Neil albumm comes out. And use your vote (for either side) when the time comes around - but use it.
Vern,
Actually the line was "Even Richard Nixon has got soul" from the song Campaigner.
It was definitely meant to be tongue in cheek by the way.
Also...I have a confession to make...I owned a few GFR records when I was in Jr. High and I even went to a few of their concerts.
Steppenwolf too come to think of it.
For a basically pretty dumb band, they we're also a lot of harmless fun,
So there ya go.
Glen
So DJ Radiohead...that was quite the tiff you and Rodney got into today. I was half tempted to send you two kids into seperate corners for a bit there...LOL
Still DJ...Neil Young doesn't merit your contempt?
Hey I wasn't a big fan of Greendale either. And no one says you have to like the guy (just as no one says I have to like...the Grateful Dead for example).
But you got a little vitriolic there for a minute.
Surprising...because you are on most days pretty much the consumate gentleman.
LOL....
Glen
Thanx, Mr. Boyd. I don't think I've listened to that song or even that album (Hawks & Doves?) since about the time it came out. Maybe I ought to give it a spin tonight.
My favorite Grand Funk moment is the album Grand Funk Live Album, Side 4, where the song "Into the Sun" takes up the entire side. In the last half of the song, the distortion of the guitar, the drums, the fuzz bass, and the screaming crowd blends into on big buzzy...well, buzz. In later years I discovered it's similar to the Velvet Underground's magnum opus "Sister Ray," without so many sailors in it.
Hmmm... maybe a little Neil with Crazy Horse, too. I might be one of the few people who listened to Arc all the way through - twice! I figure THAT'S Neil's real protest record.
Been following Neil Young with a fine tooth comb since I was 11ish and I'm 40. Seen him 5 times and have every record and many Bootlegs. Love his work to death except when he sways left. I think the real Neil is the "Lets Roll" fella but he has tooooo many Commie-Lib cling-ons which he loves on a personal level and thus he is telling them with things like Greendale and this New Metal Folk Protest Album that hey, I still love you Freaks, Communists and Hippies, here's one for ya. Here's one for you "Forbid Drilling but cry about Gas price Marxists", here's one for you "Pay the man 50 dollars an hour to turn A Lug Nut idiots", here's one for you "Dismantle the Military hate America First Liberals", heres one for you "Abort a harmless Baby but let a Murderer Live bleeding heart Mike Farrell loving pieces of Monkey Crap" here's one for you "Bruce Springsteen coward run to Canada but come back to America when the War is over to make a Fortune off 5 Cords repeated over and over again traitors" Here's one for you "Rich Liberal Tax sheltered, tax everyone else but me let all the Immigrants in because they'll never afford to live next to me anyway Babra Striesand little Bitches"
P.S. "But I still do Love Neil Young Baby !"
I do Love Neil's Work. Smile.
Could not agree more Rubberneck.
CNN is calling "Living With War" an "Anti-American" album. It really is just a good old "Protest Album", which Neil Young is no stranger to. Ever since I bought the 45 "For What It's Worth", I have been folling Neil!
There is no other artist that does what he feels, writes what he feels, and doesn't care what anyone else thinks, as long as he is satisfied with his work. For that I have a lot of respect!
It's about time someone wrote a new Protest Song!
And I thought I held my tongue pretty well, I kept the F* bombs to a minimum. I admit, the shot at Greendale might have been a bit unwarranted but certainly not vitriolic.
I guess I was pointing out Young isn't the first guy to put his activism to music since the outbreak of the Iraq war. I was also suggesting the reason so few of them have stuck is because most of the songs were heavyhanded on the politics and lightweight on the music. If Neil turns in that kind of record, it will be forgotten just as quickly as- wait, who were we talking about? Protest song implies there will be a song in there somewhere. We'll see.
I could give a rat's ass about Neil Young's politics, but I'm pretty skeptical of this project. For starters, Neil Young is WAY past his artistic prime.
Also, his guitar noise records are largely just that- noise. When he goes into that mode, it's just goddam random noise with little signficant pattern or meaning. SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH! Mere aggravated distortion does not constitute meaningful or worthwhile music. That he made it in three days strongly suggests that it would be half-assed self-indulgent nonsense- much like most of his guitar albums.
Let me know when this comes out if there's an actual T-U-N-E anywhere on this.
Al, I never fail to be amazed by your boundless lack of musical taste.
Rodney sez...
*Al, I never fail to be amazed by your boundless lack of musical taste.*
Quoted for Truth
nuff said?
Excelsior!
Al,
You of course are entitled to be "skeptical of this project" and may even have every right to be. But to say that "Neil Young is way past his artistic prime"?
I simply could not disagree more.
As Karen correctly notes above...what makes Neil Young continue to be such a vibrant artist (at 60 some years old) is the way he continues to "Do what he feels, write what he feels" and not really care what anyone else thinks.
Does this mean there have been more goofy artistic turns throughout his career than a roller coaster ride through the bargain bin at Tower Records? Sure it does.
It means for that every "Harvest" there have been more challenging records like "On The Beach"; for every "Rust Never Sleeps" there has been a Shocking Pinks or a Trans.
This is not a new development by the way. Neil Young's entire career has been a series of commercial peaks and valleys because he steadfastly follows his artistic muse...often to his commercial detriment.
Or As DJ Radiohead somewhat exageratedly pointed out, "he hasn't been able to give away a record in twelve years"...well, heres a news flash.
His last record, released just nine months ago, "Prairie Wind" has done a very healthy...by today's commercial standard of 50 Cent and American Idol anyway...460,000 units.
Not too shabby.
But the bottom line is Neil Young follows his artistic muse without compromise. Can it be frustrating at times when he puts out, lets say "less than classic" material like Greendale? Sure. But it's never boring.
And at his age, I will take a guy who continues to challenge both himself and his audience over the likes of his generational peers like The Stones anyday. Let Jagger and Richards trot out their "grey-test hits" every couple of years or so for a big, fat payday.
And "A Bigger Bang" while I am on that subject?
Overated. Vastly Overated. That "Sweet Neo-Con" song everybody fell all over themselves over...now THAT was calculated.
As for Neil Young's "SCREEECHing" guitar?
Well Al, what you hear as a screech is beautiful noise to my ears. Beautiful, cranked to freaking eleven noise from Old Black.
Neil's guitar playing when it is at his cranked to eleven best is no technical marvel to be sure. It is however, searing, trance like at times, and incerdibly emotional.
"Like A Hurricane"; "Cortez";...and more recently "Change Your Mind" from Sleeps With Angels; "Goin Home" from Are You Passionate; and pretty much all of "Mirror Ball"...are all great examples. You can find yourself getting lost in the emotional, beautiful noise of that feedback laden sound.
I expect more of the same on Living With War.
I also expect plenty of great songs...which contrary to what some of the commenters here have said...Neil still has plenty of.
If you doubt that he does, look no further than his very most recent album, "Prairie Wind".
i just want to say that i loved Greendale.
still do.
also love loud, distorted, noisy "pointless" electric guitar.
gotta go listen to some Glen Branca now.
bye!
Mark, I went back and reread my original Blogcritics review of Greendale and found it very, very mixed, but it's grown on me since then considerably. And are there really soulful people out there who don't fall under the sway of the sheer sonic corniness of "Be the Rain"? I always crank it up way, way loud.
I'm still very much on the fence regarding Prairie Wind, but I quite liked Jonathan Demme's concert movie of it. It reminded me why I continue to care about Neil Young; he always keeps pushing, even if he falls on his face.
I think John Lennon understood him perfectly when an interviewer asked him about the line "It's better to burn out than it is to rust."
"If Neil Young admires that sentiment so much," Lennon said, "why doesn't he do it? Because he sure as hell faded away and came back many times, like all of us."
Rodney,
As far as Greendale is concerned, I don't think it's one of his best...but it has it's moments. "Bandit" could've come right off "On The Beach"...I like that one a lot.
The tour was a typically goofy mess...and as for the "movie"...well, the less said the better.
Regarding the above comment...that would be the Greendale movie I refer to when I say "the less said the better."
Demme's Heart of Gold documentary on the other hand is a wonderful film.
"If Neil Young admires that sentiment so much," Lennon said, "why doesn't he do it? Because he sure as hell faded away and came back many times, like all of us."
I think Neil has tried to self destruct many times. He even admits to it in the interview he does on "Year Of The Horse". He builds it up and tears it down, trying to keep it fresh. A lot of people can't get past his voice but one thing they have to admit, Neil is not a phoney.
His last record, released just nine months ago, "Prairie Wind" has done a very healthy...by today's commercial standard of 50 Cent and American Idol anyway...460,000 units.
ACTUALLY IT HAS SOLD WELL OVER 500,000 UNITS IN THE U.S. ALONE. HIS GREATEST HITS COMPILATION HAS ALSO BUSTED 500,000 UNITS SOLD IN THE U.S. ALONE. REFER TO THE RIAA WEB SITE FOR FURTHER DEATILS. (2) More Gold Records for Neil !
PEACE THROUGH SUPERIOR FIRE POWER !
What the hell is Glen Branca anyway ?
I had read somewhere it was 480,000 sold at last count but if the RIAA says it's gold, then gold it is.
So there ya go. Two gold records. Not exactly being unable to "give away a record".
Now about that "firepower" of yours Rubberneck...LOL...
Actually...Never mind.
We've managed to keep the dialog in this particular discussion pretty much centered on the musical aspect so far...
I think that speaks volumes about BC's readership.
Lord have mercy, many of you are such devout believers in the formed antimind of fancy sweetness that is whatever pseudodelicioso media teat you may suckle with watery hype...milk blood to keep from running out, I suppose. None of you know the truth, but most believe your own lies, the biggest lies, you know, the ones you tell yourselves. George Bush lied? Sure, why not. You repeat them. Neil Young lies too. You repeat them. Given Neil the Squeal's latest bout with illness and this rather sad and punitively pitiful spouting forth of his bland stale bitch-bile, as if emanated from too long a beached and dead dormant whale's uncorked without wile blowhole, I must now confirm that I do believe in the mission mantra of Wally the Beaver and His Cleaver-Wielding Clan, from Alabam': that no south-of-the-St-Lawrence-ern man, nor woman, nor child, needs old Mr Young around. I mean really, golly gee, geezers and non- alike or not, maybe he should go on back to Alberta, where there's not a lot to do 'round there, and stoke up a fattie and all easy-like, just lie back down and relive, in those charred scarred recesses of what remains of his brain, those six or seven great records of his from the sixties and seventies, including the ones he played on with with Buffalo Springfield and CSN&Y, and Nowhere, Harvest, Comes, Zuma, stop, and, hey hey my my, my my hey hey, since he obviously won't burn out, then oh, say, why not fade away, just call it all a creative day, instead of embarrassing himself and all of us who share this planet with this released canned digital tripe of boring he's attempting to call a work of art, in lieu of actual artistry any the more.
O Neil, go home, man. You once did sort of wonderful and relatively semi-important work. Good songs, okay? That was then. Now, you are done, sir. If this crap is all you have to say...you are indeed more than well done.
Hang it up.
Respectfully, it's all of a...Mister E.

Mister E -- Some basic writing advice: know what you want to say, then say it clearly.
Gold is stil an important sales figure and no one is more surprised than me to hear he actually sold 500k Prarie Wind. I am man enough to retreat when facts have proven me wrong. That's very solid. Much more than I expected.
I am still skeptical about the songs on this record. I like Pearl Jam a lot (sorry, Al) but that "Bu$hleaguer" song was a piece of shit. I don't care what your politics are (OK, I do but realize we all have different ones) but if you want to write a protest song start by having a song and then protest. Young has, in my opinion, been on both sides of that fence in his career. We'll see what happens with this one.
As to Glen's swipe at the Stones... they're easy targets and "Sweet Neo Con" is a shit song. That said, if someone would have trimmed Bigger Bang down to a 12-song set like it should have been that is a pretty solid record. There are some good moments on it. It's just too long and "Sweet Neo Con" sucked balls.
Don't get me wrong DJ...I like the Stones. And I certainly realize the impact they have had on music (I mean if I didn't, then my qualifications to be doing THIS are somewhat in question right?).
It's just that they no longer are challenging their audience or themselves creatively...where guys like Dylan, Springsteen, and YES Neil Young are.
I don't expect another Exile On Main Street from them (just as I don't expect Born To Run from Bruce or another Highway 61 from Dylan)...but A Bigger Bang?
It wasn't even another Tattoo You. And critics fell all over themselves, naming it to 2005 Best Of Lists and the like.
The Stones are gonna have do a little more than plug the amps back in to warrant that kind of praise.
Incredible history notwithstanding.
Neil, on the other hand, continues to challenge himself and his audience.
The results are hit and miss...just as they have always been.
But when he does "hit one"...he usually knocks it clean out of the ballpark.
We'll soon know if "Living With War" is one of those "Grand Slams".
Reading this Blog and seeing all the different Neil Young albums that are being mentioned, I noticed that no one said anything about one of my favorite albums, Silver and Gold. Although I have no idea if this was a best seller or not, I think its just a great piece of work.
I listened to American Stars n' Bars on the way to work today. Not a great disc, but a damn fine one, partly because it's so erratic: a loose set of romping country blues, offset by Young's weirdest cut, "Will to Love" -- the only song I know told from the point of view of a salmon swimming upstream -- and his sonic masterpiece "Like a Hurricane." Interestingly, these songs follow each other; after the slow, ethereal eternity of one, the other arrives like a thunder clap. The effect is positively cathartic.
Neil Young's "Living With War" will be posted for free Internet streaming next week. Starting April 28, fans can log onto Young's Web site and listen to the 10-track set, according to Reprise spokesperson Bill Bentley.

This article was namedropped on BCRadio this week.
I liked A Bigger Bang, too, Saleski. It had some strong moments.
DJ,
Thanx for the name drop on BC Radio.
I should be writing a review of Seeger Sessions later today...listening to it right now.
So far, I actually like it a little more than I expected to...especially the more gospel sounding stuff (O Mary Don't You Weep is a particular standout thus far).
...Not that I'd want Bruce to revert to this type of thing full time or anything though.
Glen
THIS COUNTRY HAS NO ROOM FOR TRAITORS AND COMMUNISTS THUS NEIL YOUNG AS MUCH AS IT PAINS ME TO SAY THIS TAKE JOAN BAEZ AND JANE FONDA TO YOUR CANADIAN MANSION AND SHOE EACH OTHER IN THE ASS WHILE TELLING EACH OTHER HOW MUCH YOU HATE THIS COUNTRY. Dear Rubberneck,
You don't know how right you are: Maybe you do.
The Federal Government's Three-Month Take from Exxon-Mobil Sales: Nearly $17,000,000,000 (Plus They Took a Chunk of the Company's $8.4B Profits)
The demagogues denounce Exxon-Mobil's profits,
but the government takes double that for itself, and does absolutely nothing to produce gas for your car.
Wonder how Neil would feel if they did that to his music.
The whole album is streaming on Neil young's website right now.
So far, I'm two songs in.
So far, this is, at least musically speaking, your pretty basic grungy Neil Young. Nothing's really leaping out so far though.
Waiting for that crying guitar solo...
Check it out at http://www.neilyoung.com
Five songs in, and I have to be pretty honest...so far I'm pretty disapointed.
I like what he's saying...and posters like Rubberneck may disagree...but I think at a time when our country is as divided as it is, the time is ripe for protest music.
But I expected a lot more musically speaking.
This is kind of like "Mirror Ball" without the great guitar solos. I'm listening to the "Impeach The President" song right now...and the Bush sound bites are pretty cool. But I'm waiting for that great screaming guitar noise to punctuate it...
So far it aint there. Seven songs in.
This is more like a Greendale sound.
The idea is there. The songs aint.
Personally, my expectations have been turned kind of upside down here. I expected this to be really powerful, where I expected Springsteen's Seeger Sessions to be a disapointment.
So far the opposite is true,
"Looking For A Leader" is playing now, and I'm still looking for a great song.
"O Mary Don't You Weep" from Springsteen's "Seeger Sessions" release says everything Neil's album tries to say without hitting you over the head with it.
And Bruce didn't even write it.
Yup. Definitely a disapointment.
At least on my first official listen, streamed through my computer speakers.
I still applaud him for bringing "protest music" back...God knows we need it now like we have at no time since the Nixon years.
But the thing is, for protest music to be truly effective, you need a memorable melody to go with the message.
And for the life of me, I can't remember a thing I've just heard. No "Ohio"; No "Southern Man"; hell, no "For What its Worth" (and yes, I know Stephen Stills wrote that one).
Musically this is a slightly louder Greendale.
And again, though I had much lower expectations for it...Springsteen's "Seeger Sessions" hits the mark in all of the ways this tries to without trying nearly as hard.
Bruce's "O Mary Dont You Weep" is streaming on my blog now.

You make the call.
Good Night.
Glen
I was worried about his inclusion of America The Beautiful, but, he wrapped the sentiment up well, without the phoney patriatism thrown around by so many today.
Let's just say: no matter what anyone thinks/feels, someone, no matter when, at least put our feelings out in music.
Too bad there aren't more like in the 60s though ; (
I like Neil Young's Living with War a lot. Bush, Iraq, the complicit media -- the usual suspects all clearly inspired and focused Young. The record is comprised of ten swift songs, none of which overstays its welcome. Young approaches the subject matter in what might be called classically Dylanesque fashion -- mourning losses, praying for peace, questioning why things happen, and ultimately hating and condemning the responsible parties.
The opening cuts "After the Garden" and "Living with War" are respectively post-apocalyptic, mournful, introspective eulogies. With "The Restless Consumer," Young 's great prowling guitar builds to a very familiar kind of call-and-response bully pulpit:
Don't need no more lies!
NO NEED!
Don't need no more lies!
NO NEED!
Song for song, Young zeroes in more and more on everything about the war that pisses him off -- often leaving it with a barbed, hostile wit (he even employs George W. as kind of a double-talking co-vocalist on "Impeach the President.")
There is also I think a kind of broad thematic question to the record, regarding what the country has turned into under Bush. The closing number, "America the Beautiful," is both hopeful and ironic.
Given its topicality, I don't know how often I'll play this record, once I buy it. Time will only tell.
It makes me think of Freedom, for some reason.
Always good to be hearing Ol' Black.
Here is the direct link to
hear the complete album NOW:
(Sorry about the blind url...everytime I have ever tried putting html directly into the comment box it doesn't work for some reason) [That will be because you're doing it wrong, Glen. Take a look at this tutorial. Thank you. Comments Editor]
Glen
Thanks, Glen -- that's a better link. I think I'll just leave it on and let it run perpetually a few days.

CAN'T SEE THE COFFINS ON T.V. ? GEORGE W. BUSH'S FAULT ? FUCK NO ! READ COMMY.
"The department's policy regarding no media coverage of remains transfer has been in effect since 1991," said a Pentagon spokesman. "The principal focus and purpose of the policy is to protect the wishes and the privacy of the families during their time of greatest loss and grief." The result of that policy has, until now, been a total absence of images of the transport of military coffins in the US press, particularly of their arrival at the Dover, Delaware, military base that is the terminus for most coffins arriving from Iraq.
Whatta ya say to this Neil ?
Physical documents presented at Saddam Hussein's trial show that Saddam personally approved the execution of 10 juveniles among the 148 Shiites condemned to death without a proper trial.
Many of the victims had non-existent imaginary trials in which they were sentenced to death. One of the documents was a June 14, 1984 ruling by the Revolutionary Court sentencing to death 148 people from Dujail. Saddam allegedly signed the death warrant two days later; however no transcripts of the victims' testimony exist indicating that there was no trial. As many as 96 or the 148 died during interrogations and a 1984 document reflects that many died or were liquidated during interrogation. The remaining 52 were executed as ordered.
And our boys put panties on the poor enemys heads. Let me go cry in my wifes arms, I'll be right back. How could we be so cruel ? Awwwwwww, we are cruel ain't we Neil ?
I VOTED FOR IT BEFORE I VOTED AGAINST IT. TAHT'S THE BEST YOU LIBS GOT ? LOL !
TAHT'S
Neil Young clearly outlines the incompetence and ultimately tragic mistakes made by this administration that has trapped the nation in war, drained its resources, and diminished its credibility in the world. Mr. Young's twist is that he not only daylights the problems but presents solutions on how to start the change and take back this nation from the radical right.
Mr. Young has set the bar with Living with War.
I believe if one more heavy weight (e.g. Willie Nelson) would weigh-in with his thoughts/music about the highjacking of this country, the critical mass of the silent majority would rise to tip the scale of reason and justice back into balance.
Thank you Neil Young, an honorary American and true hero.
This won't be Young's first protest record. Maybe it will be a good one.
That seems unlikely given his track record of being consistently irritating and musically horrendous.
Dave
Damn Dave...woke up on the wrong side of the bed today or something? Don't sugar coat it or anything there bro...
I'm all for saving the Polar Bears...but this has exactly WHAT to do with Neil Young's new record again?
Sorry, but I believe I missed that...
[Glen, it's usually wiser to ignore that type of comment so I can simply delete it and not a whole chain of comments. Trust us! Comments Editor]
Why did liberals consider it OK for Clinton and Madeline Albright to ride in military aircraft and visit the USS John F. Kennedy, but consider it wrong for President Bush to do so?
Glen (I'll tell ya what it has to do with it)
LIBERAL HYPOCRACY
Why was it OK with Democrats when Clinton intervened in the Yugoslavian civil war, invaded and occupied Bosnia and Macedonia, then subsequently bombed the country for 79 days straight, but NOT OK when Bush invaded Iraq?
Why was it OK with Democrats when Clinton invaded Haiti and restored a drug addict marxist dictator to power, but not OK for George Bush to depose the Taliban and Saddam Hussein?
Why did liberals support Clinton (on the eve of his impending impeachment) when he bombed Baghdad for 4 days (with more cruise missiles than were used in the entire gulf war), then condemn the bombing of military targets in operation Iraqi Freedom?
Why did liberals consider it OK for Clinton and Madeline Albright to ride in military aircraft and visit the USS John F. Kennedy, but consider it wrong for President Bush to do so?
Why was John F. Kennedy's successful economy-stimulating tax cut OK with democrats, but George Bush's is not?
Why did Democrats condemn Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas for unproven allegations of sexual harassment, and force Republican Sen. Bob Packwood to resign amid charges of sexually harassing his aides, then vigorously defend Bill Clinton when Jennifer Flowers, Kathleen Willey, Paula Jones, Juanita Broderick, and many other women exposed him for adultery, sexual harassment, and alleged rape?
Why do liberals defend Clinton's openly illegal draft-dodging, but condemn President Bush for joining the National Guard instead of serving in the Regular Armed Forces?
Why was it considered "free speech" for former KKK member Sen. Robert Byrd to use the term "white nigger" in a public address, but not OK for Sen. Trent Lott to publicly support Sen. Thurmond, and not OK for Sen. Rick Santorum to express his conservative views on sex law legislation?
Why do self-proclaimed "tolerant" liberals support public displays of the gay pride flag; the African-American Unity flag, and the black panthers flag, but condemn southern citizens (or anyone for that matter) for publicly expressing southern culture and history by displaying the stars & bars?
Why did liberals cheer the arrest of UN flag burners in Chicago a few years back, but think it's OK to burn the American flag in protest?
Why did liberals think it was OK when the Clinton administration supported BATF agents who lied to obtain a search warrant then forcibly entered and attacked the Christian Fundamentalist Branch Davidians in their home - and why did liberals consider it OK for FBI agents to subsequently murder 80 of their women and children?
Why do liberals consider it "unconstitutional" to arrest, detain, and question illegal immigrants & terrorist suspects (whom the Constitution does not apply to)?
Why did liberals think it was OK when the Clinton administration supported, awarderd, and promoted the BATF agents who entrapped a white seperatist, the U.S. Marshalls who murdered his son, and the FBI sniper who murdered his unarmed wife by shooting her in the face while she was holding her baby?
Why is it that liberals loathe and demean non-violent Christian Fundamentalists, yet defend and preach "tolerance" for Islamic Fundamentalists who not only profess open hatred for America, but also aid, abet, and engage in murderous terrorist activity?
Why do liberals support murdering unborn children yet vehemently oppose the death penalty?
Why was it OK for Janet Reno to fire all 98 U.S. attorneys the day after she took office, and replace them with her own hand-picked lawyers; and for Clinton to nominate liberal democrat judicial activists to the bench, but NOT OK for George Bush to nominate Republican judges who have a pristine public record of upholding the Constitution and the laws of the land?
Why was it OK for Clinton & Reno to violate the fourth Amendment by ordering wiretaps on law-abiding gun owners & authorizing illegal searches and seizure in public housing to confiscate guns, but NOT OK for the Bush admninistration to wiretap, track and prosecute terrorists?
Why is it OK for Islamic students to kneel and pray in public schools, but not OK to use the phrase "under God" in the pledge of allegiance?
Why is it OK in public schools to preach tolerance for homosexual activity, and celebrate Kwanzaa, Ramadan, & black history, but not OK to celebrate Christmas?
Why do liberals condone racial discrimination based on skin color in hiring and when granting college admissions?
Why do liberals support and defend illegal immigrants who obtain free health care, send their kids to our public schools, live in gov't housing, and obtain food stamps - all at the expense of the American taxpayer?
Why do liberals consider it "art" to publicly display a figure of Christ suspended in a vial of urine, but "offensive" for a female teacher to wear a necklace with a cross on it in a public school?
Why is the left-wing environmentalist wacko-unibomber Ted Kozcynski still living?
What does Jesse Jackson do for a living?
Again...I fail to see what any of this has to Neil Young. Even if he is doing a "protest record"...which is time honored and as American a tradition as the Bill of Rights or our constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of speech.
And that's as far as I'm going to take the bait here and become engaged in a debate neither of us has any hope of winning.
You have your opinions (some...not many, but some of which I even kind of agree with). And I have mine.
Aint America great?
Yes Glen,
He can say what he wants. But so much (all in fact) of what he's saying here is based on emotion and when it is examined it just doesn't pan out. Bush did not lie, he had bad intel. Kerry, Clinton and countless other democrats said the exact same thing, "THE EXACT SAME THING" as the President reference Iraq and Saddam. So why is Bush left holding the bag for everything ? Kerry voted for the war as did former Senator Dashle and again countless other Democrats. They saw the exact same intel as the President. What's the president supposed to do ? If he went in and flattened the place and we didn't have one more wounded soldier the Lefties would call him imperialist and mean spirited and a War Criminal. We're doing it this way because of world opinion and also to try not to hurt the innocent. (Even at the cost of our own Soldier's lives) How much better would we all be if we all just stood together on this ? Movements like this only help the enemy. Their sitting in their caves laughing their asses off because of things like this. The Service men and women voluntered and knew good and well just what they voluntered for. Getting into the Military is quite a hefty task these days, believe it or not. You have to want to be there. So this record is leftist propaganda whether Neil knows it or not. Neil hates to see the guys and gals come home hurt, or worse. God Bless him for that but he fails to relize that we all do, President Bush most of all. Thank God Gore wasn't in charge on 9/11. Why the switch from "Lets Roll" to this Propaganda ? This is a complete 180. Clinton starts a war and Sheryl Crow goes over and does a concert with a smile on her face, Bush defends the country from potential danger and she goes on T.V. with a stop the war Guitar strap. HYPOCRACY. That's what I cannot stand.
Why do people think some conservatives appear like frothing mad dogs who don't understand facts or context?
See previous comments.
Sizzle/Wackey, if you are going to appear to be different people, you shouldn't incorrectly spell the same words.
It's spelled both ways if that's what you're talking about. They mean the same thing. Take the word and punch it up on a search engine. You do know what a search engine is, don't you ? What's more, it's obvious who produced both posts. You can tell by the obviously superior thinking that went into both posts. Bottom line is, Liberism has never worked. Never, anywhere, ever. Capitalism works every time it's tried. Tax cuts work every time their tried. Every time, without a doubt. Your war on poverty, 6 Trillion in, the same people are in the same place, doing the same thing. Sucking the Government TIT or TEAT (Mr. Fuckin Spelling Bee)Right where the fucking Liberals want them, depending on their good intentions, which by the way are not good, but are in fact evil. A perm underclass for the Liberals to save and protect from the mighty Republicans. This album, a huge Broadcast of colossal ignorance based upon emotion, not fact nor figure nor sense, emotion. We have lost 2,500 or so troops in 3 plus years but Saddam killed twice that many in one sitting. Where's the Liberal sympathy for them ? Where's human rights watch on that ? Why didn't they go protest Saddam ? You see, Republicans can't let that sort of thing go on, unlike you cowardly Liberals that would let masses be murdered because you don't want to fight or hurt someones feelings. PEACE only comes after total VICTORY. Look it up. All this Liberal happy horse shit talking does nothing. Nothing at all. Tom Fox was on their side and what did they do to him ? Huh ? I know what the fuck I'm talking about, you do some research and come back in 4 or 5 years when your at my level and we'll talk.
You might want to try using a dictionary for spelling rather than the Internet, but the fact that you don't do research was already evident from your comments.
"Republicans can't let that sort of thing go on, unlike you cowardly Liberals that would let masses be murdered because you don't want to fight or hurt someones feelings."
Pop Darfur in your precious search engine and then get back to me on why you Republicans are letting it happen. Just because you come off like a rambling fool doesn't make someone else a liberal. The only way I'd be at your level is through severe trauma or atrophy to certain lobes of the brain.
Hypocracy-Hypocrisy It's all Liberalism and it's spelled both ways numb nuts. I said this on my previous post but it did not publish so I'm saying it again.
Hey Neil, lets sell those some 200 cars you own and feed the poor. It's a win, win, win situation. You don't have to pay the Taxes every year on those dusty old cars, the poor get a meal, you feel warm all over and you Libs can stop picking my pocket while you sit there in the lap of luxury. And give Barbra a call, she's sold 70 Million Records, she for sure has some spare change laying around that she can donate. I'll bet she feels real bad about that Sea-Side mansion she lives in.
Hey Neil, lets sell that big house you own and feed the poor. You don't need all that room, do you ? I'll bet you could get by in a 2 room apartment.
Hey Neil, lets sell a bus or 2 that you own and feed the poor.
Hey Neil, Ol' Black will fetch a mighty sum, lets sell it and feed the poor. I got and old Yamaha you can use instead.
Thanks Neil.
For whatever it's worth, I hope to have a full review of the Living With War album stream up later today...which will include a link for you to hear and judge for it yourself.
By the way Mr. Dillon, I noticed the man of many names also mispelled "liberalism" in one of his rants (liberism).
Like I said before though...where else ya gonna find freedom of speech (including the freedom to mangle it)...LOL
Aint America Great?
ya gonna-----I noticed that neither of these are words, you must have been educated in one of those North Eastern Liberal schools. Nobody gives a fuck what your review of the album is anyway. Who the fuck are you ?
I see you could not address my issues, typical LIBERAL (did I spell that right ?) ignorance (now that's a big word, I hope I got it right too) Fuck off Lib. Address the issues.
I would need a degree in psychology to deal with your issues because you are apparently delusional and reality has no effect on your emotion-filled opinions evidenced by your lack of awareness that the Sudan genocide is happening on your watch.
Please cite the dictionary that has the word "Hypocracy" in it. I thought you conservatives were so vigilant about people speaking proper English in this country, but I guess you only want Mexicans speaking English correctly.
Hey I popped Dufar into the Search Engine. I pulled up an (AP story) you do know what that means don't you ? If not ask. Anyway, it seems we're all over it and this coming from the (AP), it must be true. I mean it is not perfect, but we're there trying huh ? What do you say to that Commylib ?
AP - Wed May 3, 11:24 AM ET
ABUJA, Nigeria - Sudan seems poised to disarm a vicious militia faster and accept more rebels into its security force in U.S.-initiated concessions that meet fighter demands for bringing peace to Darfur, a government spokesman said Wednesday. Abdulrahman Zuma said the concessions, including speedier disarmament of the Janjaweed militia the government is accused of unleashing on Darfur civilians, were part of U.S.-brokered changes to a draft peace treaty the rebels had rejected. The government had accepted the initial draft but now appeared ready to accept changes.
U.N.: Darfur Needs Strong Protection Force
Troops Must Have Mandate and Means to Defend Civilians
The U.N. Security Council must authorize the proposed United Nations mission in Darfur to use force as necessary to protect civilians, Human Rights Watch said in a briefing paper released today. On April 26, the U.N. Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) is scheduled to brief the Security Council on options for a U.N. mission in Darfur.
OH MY GOD !!!!!!! USE FORCE ???????????OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!NOOOOOOO IT CAN'T BE !!!!!!!!!! USE FORCE JUST BECAUSE THEIR TRYING TO KILL US ?? IS THAT A PROPER WAY TO RESPOND ???????
Oh, One last thing Roger,
I don't want them to speak English. In fact, I want them to keep speaking Spanish. In their own country. This ones mine. Got That ? By the way, why don't you go with them and see if they'll let you on to their Welfare Rolls ? See if they'll let your kids go to School for free and of Course eat Breakfast and Lunch. See if they'll let you use the Emergency Room for free. Bring your American Flag with you, I'm sure they'll let you wave it from atop the School house. Oh I know, I know, you don't own an American flag, I'll let you borrow mine.
Oh, by the way Mr. Glenn, I noticed you mispelled "O V E R" in Post number 7 of this Blogg. You spelled it ovewr but there is no W in the word over. I did however understand what you were trying to say. Next time, look it up in the Dictionary, O.K. Pal ? Thanks !
YOU ARE NOT IMPEACHING MY PRESIDENT, HOMEBOY.
GOD BLESS PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH !
LET'S ROLL BABY !

President Vows To Aid Darfur
CBS News RAW: President Bush commented on a proposed peace agreement concerning the Darfur region of Sudan. He also called for more U.N. peacekeepers and promised an increase in U.S. food aid.
Well, well, well...
Every Song is something we've heard before. Every song. We've got the famous Cowgirl in the Sand/Wooden Ships riff, of course we have the Satisfaction/Mr. Soul riff, we have the famous Am G F progression of Like a Hurricane/Hey Hey My My/Touch the Night/Throw your hatred Down/Watchtower ect..on Shock and Awe, we have the ol' World on a String riff, we have some Barstool Blues action and of course some Knockin' on Heavens Door (Roger and Out) Same ol' songs with a few new words. For a guy that hates re-doing what he's already done, he sure re-do's it (I'm being funny Glenn) a lot. Nothing New, same ol' songs with a Carl Markx twist. Some of you people want to say that this sets the Bar ?? Come on man, you know nothing about music or Neil young for that matter. Some of you people are thinking, "Touch the Night" hummm, is that a Neil Young song ? That's how much you know about Neil Young. Good ol' Neil, poor guy has too many America Hating Communist pals, I don't think this record is how the guy really feels inside.
He wants to impeach the President ? He doesn't even have the fuckin' right to vote !
Another not inconsiderable joy of this record: it pisses off the Rubbernecks of the world.

Congratulations to Sean Allen, a Colorado high school student who fought back against the obnoxious leftist brainwashing that has become disturbingly characteristic of our educational system. Using an MP3 player, he recorded 20 minutes of a geography class taught by Jay Bennish, one of many left-leaning teachers who has used his position to impose depraved political views on a captive audience of impressionable minds.
Normally the heavily left-leaning education establishment takes care of its own. But this time the public is involved. School Superintendent Monte Moses received his copy of the recording Allen made from KOA-AM radio host Mike Rosen.
GOD BLESS AMERICA / GOD BLESS GEORGE W. BUSH / GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS / I NEVER BOW TO THE THOUGHT POLICE
That was cute did you make that up yourself of did you have/need help?
rubberneck, can you condense all of your comments into something... ON TOPIC!? or at least not all in caps? it makes you seem even more annoying.
right... sorry. i didn't mean to write that. force of habit.
Everything I've written is in response to Neil Young's "Living with War". If you were deep enough you'd understand that (You faggots are usually deep, or so I'm told). It's about every thing you Carl Marx loving Communists say being a God Damn lie. Everything. Damn near every major Liberal (if there is such a thing) saw the same intel as GWB and voted for the War. When it got a liittle rough, they acted like they were lied to. What a fuckin' crock of shit. The Tax cuts worked. The worst economy since Herbert Hoover ? No, the strongest economy, EVER. EVER, GOT THAT ? Even John Kerry voted for the War, before he voted against it (LOL) Throws his "MEDALS" over the fence @ the White House, is an Honored Hero in North Viet-Nam, hooked up with Jane Fuckin' Fonda for anti-American protests, Sports a Dis-honorable Discharge but you Joan Baez loving communist motherfuckers have nothing to say about that, nothing at all. We put a pair of Panties on a Rag-Head and you faggot loving abortionists call the A.C.L.U., start court actions against your own country, and march out pawns like Cindy Shehan and the Jersey Girls. They on the other hand cut off our peoples fuckin heads and you say nothing, not a word. No protests, no petitions, no albums, no United Nations nothing. Clinton starts a war and Sherl Crow goes to "SING FOR THE TROOPS WITH A SMILE", GWB protects the country with a War and she wears a "Stop the War" Guitar Strap on National T.V. Good thing ol' Lance saw the light and dumped that Commy Bitch. Hypocrits, that's what my postings are about, Hypocrits is what you leftists are. So put that in your Bong you Hippy Faggot(s). All of you. You don't like this country, LEAVE, GET THE FUCK OUT.
Does that logic also apply to my posts? You know the part about if you don't like them, "get the fuck out". If so, I wish you would take your own advice to heart.
Over half of the comments here are yours Mr. Neck. Well over half if you count the ones posted under your various pseudonyms.
Neil Young did a protest record. Get over it.
-Glen
"Mr. Neck" that's rich Glen. SNL had Meatloaf on one night and that Lorrain Newman acting as a journalist called him Mr. Loaf.
NEIL YOUNG AIN'T FROM THIS COUNTRY, SO IF HE DON'T LIKE IT HE CAN GET THE FUCK OUT AND TAKE YOU WITH HIM. ALL YOU FUCKIN' ANTI-AMERICAN PIECE OF SHIT JOAN BAEZ COMMUNIST LOVIN' MOTHERFUCKERS. THE 60'S ARE OVER, YOU GET OVER IT ! YOU THINK I'M THE ONLY ONE THAT FEELS THIS WAY ? ELECTION DAY IS COMING. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOUR FACES THE DAY AFTER. YOU DUMB FUCKS ARE MAKING IT WORSE FOR YOURSELVES AND YOUR ANTI-GOD ANTI-AMERICAN ANTI-NEW BORN MOVEMENT EVERY TIME YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH'S. SO FOR THAT, I THANK YOU.
Well, I loved Elton John too, up until I found out he was a pole climber.
Ya know what Nr. Neck?
This thread died weeks ago.
I have to thank you for keeping it alive as long as you have, and for basically making it one of Blogcritics most read posts for almost two weeks running back when it was still actually a news story.
But at this point I'm pretty bored with your bullshit.
Look around you dude.
Neil put the freaking record out about a week ago. It's history dude. Ancient freaking history. Yet you come back here night after freaking night to spew your venom.
And ya know what? I don't have a problem with that. Not at all. In fact you made this article. You made it a big story...Number One on Google at one point a few weeks back. So give yourself a pat on the back my friend. Give yourself a big fat, fucking pat on the back okay?
But for Chrissakes can you please move on?
I mean, I have long since posted a review of Neil's protest album elsewhere here on Blogcritics. You can even go listen to it there. So by all means, please go check it out. Please go do so.
Yeah thats right Mr. Neck, the damn thing actually got released a week or so back. So drive my hits up there if you still have an ax to grind.
Please. Drive my hits up there.
Because you have outlived your usefulness here. Did so several weeks back actually.
I've intentionally avoided engaging you in the war you so clearly seek here. Because I've dealt with trolls like you in the past...guys who stay up way past their bedtime slamming beers, typing their bullshit out all in caps, and basically regretting the fact that they can't get laid.
I understand. I even empathize to a degree.
But dude, it's time to move on.
At least get somewhat up to date, and move your bullshit over to the actual review I posted a week or so back. Because I do like getting the hits. Hell yes. I loves me my hits pal. You've been an absolute goldmine in that respect.
Otherwise, Understand some basic facts.
Neil Young has released what is basically a protest record. Protest music is as American a tradition as exists. It goes back deep into our history as a nation. Woody Guthrie. Pete Seeger. Bob Dylan. Do those names sound even remotely familiar to you?
Freedom of Speech is one of the most fundamental rights that those guys overseas are supposedly fighting for in the first place.
Neil Young has exercised that right...just as he did when he wrote "Ohio", and the rest.
Neil Young has released a protest record okay?
If you disagree with the sentiment, get over it okay? This is the last time I engage you in your bullshit trolling game.

LET'S CLEAN UP THE CORRUPTION AND MAKE THIS MY COUNTRY NOT YOUR COUNTRY STRONG NEILY BOY !

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A congressman under investigation for bribery was caught on videotape accepting $100,000 in $100 bills from an FBI informant whose conversations with the lawmaker also were recorded, according to a court document released Sunday. Agents later found the cash hidden in his freezer.
At one audiotaped meeting, Rep. William Jefferson (news, bio, voting record),
DEMOCRAT-La., chuckles about writing in code to keep secret what the government contends was his corrupt role in getting his children a cut of a communications company's deal for work in Africa.
Sorry Glenn. Really. The lyrics just piss me off tho.
P.S. I don't drink, never have, really, and I've been married for 21 years. Don't need to get laid, I am a Charter Member of RUSH 24/7 @ WWW.RUSHLIMBAUGH.COM. You must be a true Hippy Liberal. You didn't curse @ me or even try to prove me wrong. You must walk the walk. That's kool. Peace
And peace to you Mr. Neck. Roger and Out from me.

Let's Deport Neil Young
courtesy of Mangdiddles.com
Let's deport Neil Young for treason
And pull his CDs from the stores
He believes rock-and-roll gave him the power
To slam our President, Country and more
His treasonous words are criminal
The Crazy Horse belongs up North
Let's deport Neil Young for treason
Seal the boarders, and guard the shores
History has an example
From Abe Lincoln, bless his soul,
Abe shipped a treasonous reporter
To Neil's homeland - of Toronto
Let's deport Neil Young for treason
His fame has gone to his head
He claims to support our fighting kids,
Then mocks the freedom for which they are dead
Neil lives safe and wealthy in our Country
In a "Mansion on the Hill"
That hill is free today, of course,
Because of blood our soldiers spilt
I fought in Desert Storm, Neil Young
But hippies don't pay to hear me
I fought authority like you when I was young,
But you, you're over sixty
As an American Veteran I have paid my dues
And I value the freedom I live in
I have earned the right as an American to say
Let's deport Neil Young for treason
NASHVILLE Billboard Initial ticket sales for the Dixie Chicks' upcoming tour are far below expectations and several dates will likely be canceled or postoned. Ticket counts for the
20-plus arena shows that went on sale last weekend were averaging 5,000-6,000 per show in major markets and less in secondaries, according to sources contacted by Billboard. Venue capacities on the tour generally top 15,000.
