TV Review: American Idol - Lisa Tucker Exits
Published March 30, 2006

The bottom 3 on Wednesday night's results show was truly shocking. Not that anyone was exceptional the night before, but Bucky, who should have been gone weeks ago, was not even in the bottom 3. Yet somehow, female favorite Katharine McPhee, who's rendition of Christina's "The Voice Within", was not great but still good and better than Bucky on his best day — somehow ended up in not only the bottom 3, but the bottom 2.
How Ace managed to get more votes than Katharine with his nearly horrid rendition of Train's "Drops of Jupiter" I'm not quite sure (though I have an inkling it was the scar). But all is well in the world now, as when Lisa Tucker and Katharine McPhee stood side by side and Ryan read off who was going home, God had some mercy on the human race and the name he read was Lisa Tucker's. Which was highly exciting and a big relief at first.
Then I remembered she'd have to sing "Because of You" again.
And of course it was just as horrid as it was the night before. So there lies a little relief in the fact that I won't have to hear Lisa Tucker's lazy Doris Day vibrato anymore, but I do have to, unfortunately, watch Bucky toss the microphone from hand to hand and sport a cowboy hat for another week, murdering yet another great American song.
Here's to hoping the contestants pick better songs next week and that Ace doesn't try to slip in any more strip shows.

I agree totally with Judge Judy, Katherine is missing the humilty part big time. I think that's why Bucky has my vote.
Also, Ryan should be horse whipped for constantly saying, "so what do you think about Katherine being in the bottom 2", hello!!! have a little compassion for Lisa.
Ace, you and your scar have got to go.
Come on, get off the Bucky murdered yet another song, many songs have been murdered by many a "wannabe" idol.
Simon needs to stop with his remarks about Bucky, it's plain to see that he doesn't like country music, a country minx.....(Calamari Kelly),well, that's another story...
Whether or not he likes Country music, that has nothing to do with being able to spot a good singer (Carrie Underwood). Regardless of whether Bucky is singing country (Tim McGraw) or soul (Stevie Wonder), the reality is, he doesn't have much range, and frankly just isn't a fantastic singer. Enough said.
shakira - the celebrity guest - should have been embarrassed last night...if she was up for elimination last night, SHE and not lisa would have been voted off...heck, she wouldn't have even made the final 12...next time these judges criticize the contestants just remember that there are successful singers out there who can't sing as well as those people who are left on the show...except, of course, bucky...
I didn't care for the show when it first came out, although my wife watched it so much I finally got interested. But I will tell you this, if McPhee gets booted, with one of the clearest and strongest natural voices in this competition, I will never watch another show produced by Cowell and resolve myself that the American public has no musical ability when picking out the truely talented.
Evidently, some people demand not just talent from their popstar idols, but false humility as well. Good Lord. Yet another sign that America has gone too far in its fascination with celebs and proto-celebs. Do you really have to think that you approve the singer person's character and personality before you will plop money down on a CD?
Although they tell us the Bottom 3 is the 3 lowest vote getters, they NEVER say the bottom 2 is the 2 lowest.
Ace could have ad less votes than Katherine, but the producers wanted to add drama and make you think (could McPhee really be going?).
I think this has been done in the past. McPhee was likely 3rd lowest votes, not 2nd.
Next week is COUNTRY!!!!! YESSS!!!!! Paris and Mandisa will struggle the most!!!!! Hopefully one of them (Esp. Paris) will go home. And I am very curious to see how Chris does. Will he find a rock cover of a country sing or originally rockify a country song?
Or will he simply sing country??
I disagree with you...all of them were pretty awful Tuesday...Lisa Tucker has a great voice and great potential and has the looks....let's be real, Bucky, Taylor still in the running...give me a break...This show is starting to lose it's appeal...sorry! And then you have people voting for the worst, getting undeserved votes!
It's losing its appeal...yet the ratings are better than ever?
It's a love/hate thing. I know that the producers do everything possible to make the viewing public salivate and hold our breath until the next show.
I have to admit, this is really not about talent, as much as I would like for it to be, yes the kids here are "good" singers, some better than others, but the bottom line is, AI is just another popularity show. He who gets the most votes is the winner, not necessarily the person with the best vocals.
Still, I am addicted, and I think Simon is truly the only one who really tells it like it is, he may get carried away at times, but sometimes that is better then, "Dawg", "your the bomb", or "I just love the way you sing", "you give me chills", phony, phony, phony!!!
I can't believe some of you people have the audacity to say that McPhee should be humble. I guess she should just be a big old phony like Kellie Pickler. Talk about needing to go. I hope America wakes up to her fakeness and votes her out soon.
thats mean!!!i love lisa!!she is the best!!katharine should of left and lisa should of won.or maybe paris but i wanted lisa to win more and then paris .
Go to the concert to see who's really the best. Lisa sings and plays rings around Kat. Only the deaf and biased can't see that. Kat is more popular, but I don't know why.

Chris -
I'm laughing at your remark "God had some mercy on the human race and the name he read was Lisa Tucker's." Please allow me to voice my humble opinion of Katherine McPhee ... but before I do that, and lest I be judged just plain mean, I will say that Katherine can sing, and quite well! But I think personality is just as important as talent in this competition, and that girl needs a good dose of Humble Pie. I hope this little field trip to the "bottom two" shakes Katherine up a little. Will it be enough to fill her with a little GENUINE humility? Don't know ... (remembering last night ... RYAN says "Katherine, how do you feel?" and Katherine, trying so hard to be humble, says, "Gee, I've never been in this position before ...") Yeah, like she had to remind the American Public that she had never experienced even the smallest amount of failure! "America loves me, don't they?"
Oh, I'm just making myself crazy thinking about it. Needless to say, Lisa SHOULD have gone last night, and hopefully Ace will go next week. (sorry Chris) What was with that "scar viewing" during his song? GEEZ!!! But after that, all bets are off. Katherine better learn to get that smug look off her face, or she's going to be viewing her "good-bye video" with America soon! (on a side note, can you imagine Katherine having to appear as one of the bottom 5 or 6 in the A.I. tour this summer? I don't think her ego would let her!)
