The Ramble: Gonzaga, The NFL, Opening Day, Anna Benson And (Of Course) Barry Bonds
Published March 29, 2006
More Barry Bonds. This is what I wrote on March 7.
In the upcoming days and weeks I wouldn't be surprised to see Bonds' knee act up again. We should also expect some kind of press conference. Maybe we'll even see a modified version of his woe-is-me press conference that we saw almost a year ago when he brought one of his sons out as a prop and cried this to the media:
"You wanted me to jump off the bridge, I finally have jumped. You wanted to bring me down, you've finally brought me and my family down. Finally done it. From everybody, all of you. So now go pick a different person. I'm done. Do the best I can, that's about it." When asked if there was something specific he was talking about, Bonds said, "Inner hurt, physical, mentally. Done. I'm mentally drained. I'm tired of my kids crying. Tired."
Here's what Bonds said on March 28 - a day after we were told he suffered an injury to his elbow - in response to a question for an Associated Press reporter who asked how he felt about getting ready to pass Babe Ruth:
"My life is in shambles. It is crazy. It couldn't get any crazier. I'm just trying to stay sane."
As Bonds continues to break down physically and as the hell hound stay on his trail, be ready for more of the same. More injury set backs and more woe-is-Barry.
"Play Ball!"

College is where you get into bad habits you can easily break after graduation. I bet Morrison also eats a lot of ramen, sleeps till noon, and doesn't empty the trash till it's overflowing.

Sal, great stuff here. I am with you on March Madness. I don't like college basketball but the tournament is great.
I can't wait for Opening Day, either. As a (until recently) long suffering Red Sox fan there is just nothing like the excitement of it all. My fantasy team is still a shambles but I cannot wait to see live action Sunday night after The Sopranos.
