Reporting back to Paul, Brad says that she has been clean for years. He then suggests that if Paul were a little less judgmental, it might help. Paul says that he has no concept of what he has been going through with Rachel. Brad backs off, but starts talking about how great Rachel is. Paul is pleased, but latches onto Brad's giving Rachel $40 after she lost her ATM card. Since Paul did not mention how meth addicts get their fix, Brad had no clue what a bombshell he dropped.

I was struck by the scene between these two actors. I wonder if Mark thought of his daughter while watching Paul confront these issues with his screen daughter. Rene plays his part well, showing the effects of a man trying to hold onto his family when the strings are so very fragile. What happened to Paul's wife? I get the sense that she is dead after a long illness, but the writers have yet to bring much out into the open.

Paul goes to Rachel's apartment, saying he had a lunch meeting in the area. She offers to take him with her to pick up Fiona at day care. Paul asks to use her bathroom, and goes tearing through it to find proof of her addiction. He finds a pouch with a syringe in it among other paraphernalia. Angrily, he goes out to confront Rachel. Not only is she ruining her life, she has a daughter. I understand how it fits into the storyline, but it also occurred to me that a diabetic would carry that same pouch.

On the balcony, Denny says that he heard Alan has naked pictures of Shirley. When Alan refuses to show him anything, Denny produces Polaroids of Shirley in bed when the two of them slept together. Now I know the photos weren't of Shirley, but I'm curious to know what Spader and Shatner were looking at, if anything!

A diabetic would have something completely different, Nancy. For one thing, there'd be a glucometer, a box of lancets, and a diabetic would NEVER reuse a needle (unless they were totally broke, but even then, they could get new ones free from a medical clinic).

Auberjonois has been doing a fantastic job with this story line and I'm very interested to see where this leads. I envision him ending up with custody of his granddaughter while his daughter sobers up (or ends up dead).

I am thinking the intervention will work because the daughter and dad will work out their differences...and while they do, new drama will insue:

the daugther will get involved with Brad...Brad's never really had a love angle in the show, and it's about time. Sounds like they are setting us up for this.

Hmmm, maybe. If Rachel were to go away for treatment, Brad might find himself out in the cold. I agree with you, though, Ty. It's nice to see Brad interested in someone for a change!

I'm glad Rene Auberjonois is finally on a series with good writing. He's been an effective character actor for over 30 years in movies & TV, but he's finally getting a chance to show how good he really is. Being stuck on a show like "Benson" wasn't going to do that.

I have a soft spot for him. He was Father Mulcahy in the movie version of "M*A*S*H".

Actually, I liked Benson. And DS9.
