While I usually agree with your decisions, I do have concerns with this one. As a former Home Economics teacher I am certainly aware of the time it takes to make a pattern. Then there is the cutting of the fabric and the actual construction. In making a pattern the measurements of the individual are imperative. IF the Santa had lost weight, it would have drastically changed the fit. The seamstress should have been able to compare his current measurements with those taken at the beginning of the project. Also the construction time is one thing, but the elaborate trim would be a LOT of additional time. I imagine the Santa suit would have been worn with a wide belt which would change the looks and fit as well.
