Blogcritics Editors' Picks of the Week (Feb. 15 - Feb. 21): More Than Words
Published February 24, 2006
TV/Film
TV Editor Joan Hunt chose:
House - "Skin Deep" by Diane Kristine
You know, I often feel bad for missing House, but then I read one of Diane's spectacular write-ups. Thank goodness we have her! She effectively conveys the essence of each episode as well as putting a personal touch on them.
Zoey 101 — the Teen View by Maddy Pumilia
When a 14-year old young lady decides she's willing to share her thoughts on a TV show, we should all stop and listen. Seriously. 'Cuz, you know, teenagers tend not to tell us grown ups much. When a 14-year old writes a good review, we should all definitely stop in and offer kudos. Go on; tell her what a great job she did!
24 Hours of Coverage
Blogcritics.org totally has a lock on Jack Bauer and company!
Blogcritic Stephen V Funk chose:
TV Review: Rollergirls
Not only is the article a nice overview of this strange new series, it's a hilarious look at what passes for "arts and entertainment" on the A&E network these days.
Culture
Culture Editor Diana Hartman chose:
Passion For Freedom, Or Freedom Of Passion? by Gazelle
Noting that Mohammed himself would not have sanctioned the violence now found in the Muslim world, Gazelle takes a tender look at Islamic history and a hard line with what has followed.
Politics
Politics Editor Dave Nalle chose:
House Dems Seek to Limit Electoral Choice - and Kill Third Parties by Natalie Davis
A great look at a very important issue and written with the honesty of someone writing against their personal political allegiances, which I find very endearing and very convincing.
NEW! Assistant Politics Editor Mark Schannon:
Terror, the Legal/Military Conundrum by Sean Aqui
Excellent distinction is placed between legal and military issues that get intertwined and confused during a war on terror. Goes into considerable and thoughtful detail about both issues, how they're different, how they can overlap, how they should be managed.
Preserving the West in the Age of Cartoon Riots by Greg Strange
Makes powerful and important points about how the western governments and media are at a loss dealing with the irrationality of much of the Muslim world, and the risks inherent in giving in to outrageous demands.
