Blogcritics On the Pulse: Torino Olympic Games, Face Transplants, and Janet Jones

Here are the biggest searches in the Zeitgeist for the week ending February 13, 2006.

1. Torino Games

I certainly don't care about the Winter Olympics. I know a lot of people do, but at the same time, consider that NBC pays a ton of cash ($613 million) for the broadcasting rights and has had minimal results so far, according to this article in the Washington Post:

The first six nights of prime-time Olympics coverage on NBC have averaged 21 million viewers, down significantly from the 32.7 million who watched the first six nights in 2002. The Tuesday and Wednesday prime-time telecasts, which garnered audiences of 18.6 and 17.2 million respectively, became the two least-watched nights of Winter Olympics competition since at least 1988.

Unfortunately for NBC this is just not the blockbuster television event that it used to be. At the same time, this Google rank shows that there are a ton of people interested in the events. Maybe when they don't have all these time zone difficulties, the TV audiences will get back on track.

2. Janet Jones

With the hockey world ablaze in speculation over this multi-million dollar gambling ring and an assistant coach named Tocchet, the really sexy names in the case are Wayne Gretzky and his wife Janet Jones. Even if, according to reports, they aren't going to be charged with anything. "The Great One" doesn't need this kind of publicity and neither does the sport that had to sit out last year in a strike/lockout.

3. Grammys

The Grammys took place this week, and Blogcritics was on fire with music coverage:
