Dead or Alive Teaser Trailer

Wow this looks like a winner. If you think you recognize Kasumi it's because you do, she is Devon Aoki (Sin City). You've also got Jaime Pressly (Torque) playing Tina Armstrong. The movie doesn't really have anyone else famous in it. But then who wants to be in a movie about a video game notorious for its bouncing boobies?
This looks like Charlie's Angels meets Kill Bill. Seriously, why does every video game franchise have to have a movie these days? Didn't they learn the lesson with Super Mario Bros.? I could go on and on with examples here but I won't. OK, just one: BloodRayne, directed by our favorite video game movie director (sarcasm).
Please stop making tacky, horrible video game-based movies - like Doom, another shining example. Having The Rock say "Game On" is not the way to introduce the masses to the Doom universe. No wonder video games get such a bad rap.
In related news: Uwe Boll is rumored to be directing a Metal Gear movie.
Nooooooooooo!
I can see it now. They will get Kurt Russell to play Snake (Plissken) again (Escape from L.A.) and then we can turn the game's cultural reference on its head. Yea, that would be great! Never mind that David Hayter should be the obvious choice for the screen adaptation.
But let's get back to this Dead or Alive teaser trailer. If you have ever followed the bizarre story lines in Story Mode (yes there are actually story lines in the game - shocking, I know) you would be hoping beyond hope that the writers for this movie come up with something original.
The bamboo forest scene in the trailer is directly ripped from House of Flying Daggers, and the wire-foo is also clearly a derivative of both House of Flying Daggers and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. In short: there does not seem to be an ounce of originality in this Dead or Alive movie. Not that I'm shocked. Just saddened.
What's next? Ninja Gaiden The Movie?

To be honest, those names do not ring a bell, other then Jaime Pressley, I should have added her. The director does not ring a bell either. Looks like a lot of foreign films.
Eric Roberts is Julia's brother, and has made a number of films, mostly DTV fare and Kevin Nash is a wrestler, formerly of WWE and WCW where he had been known as Diesel and Big Daddy Cool, in addition to Nash.
Corey Yuen is a veteran director from Hong Kong who has worked with Jet Li on a number of occasions. He is a good martial arts action director.
The trailer did not impress me terribly, but I think it could be some fun popcorn munching fare.
I played a DOA game for the first time last night, DOA4, and think it may be the finest fighting game I've ever played!
If you are new to DOA and play DOA4 it is great, Unfortunately, if you are used to playing DOA3 and DOA Ultimate there are some big surprises. They changed the ground game and the counter system. The window of time to parry your opponent has really been cut down. This is all for the better though. It is much less of a button masher then previous games in the series and more of a deep fighter. I have always liked the DOA series a lot. Ever since DOA2 on the Dreamcast.
I noticed Kevin Nash was a wrestler, but I have not followed wrestling since I was maybe 12.
I think video game movies are at the point where comic book movies were a while back. Video game movie just seems to equal terrible right now. I am awaiting the day when a great video game movie is made with baited breath.
Well seeing as comic book movies have exploded with AAA talent, visuals, and story as of late, I hope the same can be said about video game movies in the future too!
